What are the privileges of electric vehicles in our country? Find out why you should buy an electrician

Buying an electric car

The provisions of Polish law provide discounts for people who decide to buy a hybrid or all-electric. They consist primarily in lower purchase costs - starting with the initial price for a brand new car. Rules of the road, art. 109a paragraph 1, exempts from the obligation to pay excise duty on vehicles that are electric vehicles within the meaning of Art. 2 paragraph 12 of the Law of January 11, 2018 on electric vehicles and alternative fuels. The absence of excise duty translates into a lower price of a car in a car dealership. In addition, you can count on a subsidy for an electric car. The programs provide discounts on electric vehicles for both individuals and companies. It does not matter if the car is bought for cash, leased or rented for a long time. Many hybrid and electric vehicle manufacturers, due to their simpler design and fewer drive components, fluids or filters, claim lower maintenance costs than internal combustion vehicles.

Benefits of electric vehicles

The benefits of buying an electric car don't end in the financial realm. The rules of the road provide for numerous conveniences for electricians. The green license plates that distinguish all-electric and hydrogen vehicles give their owners perks that make getting around easier and definitely faster, especially in a crowded city. These include, first of all, the provision of the opportunity to use a dedicated bus lane and the allocation of additional parking spaces.

Ride the bus lane in an electric car

The possibility of using the so-called bus lane, i.e. driving in a lane reserved primarily for buses, in order to improve urban transport during high traffic, is allowed for vehicles until January 1, 2026. According to Art. 148a. paragraph 1, the movement of electric vehicles specified in Art. 2 paragraph 12 of the Law of January 11, 2018 on electric vehicles and alternative fuels (i.e. vehicles that meet the requirements for obtaining green license plates), in bus lanes designated by the traffic officer. However, limitations should also be taken into account, as the legislator allowed the competent road administrator to make the advantage of electric vehicles dependent on the number of people using these vehicles in terms of traffic in dedicated bus lanes. Driving in the bus lane of an electric car is a great convenience in everyday life, especially for residents of large cities who live or work in places that are difficult to access due to congestion of vehicles during peak hours. This allows for much faster and certainly less stressful travel, and is also financially beneficial due to shorter travel times, lower energy consumption and less consumables for the car.

Free parking for electric vehicles

Owners of electric vehicles save not only travel time, but also parking. Parking an electric vehicle exempts you from parking fees in designated areas (these areas are specified in local regulations and properly marked). The Law on Public Roads in Art. 13. Fri. 1 states that road users are required to pay for: parking of vehicles on public roads in the paid parking area and in the paid parking area in the city center. At the same time, the legislator in paragraph 3 of this norm releases electric vehicles specified in Art. 2 paragraph 12 of the Law of January 11, 2018 on electric vehicles and alternative fuels.

Privileges by city

For example, privileges for electric cars in Warsaw allow you to save from several to several tens of minutes on the way from home to work and back, but only on a parking pass and one-time parking fees of about 5 euros per month.

Some of the places also offer free car charging stations, which has a positive effect on reducing the fees we pay for charging an electric car at home and increases the range of an electric car when using it on a longer route.

Moreover, in designated areas of Europe (and there are now more than 250 of them), you can only travel in cars with zero emissions. Thus, buying a fully electric car is also a guarantee of being able to travel anywhere in Europe in your own car, for example. in the center of Berlin.

Privileges for hybrid and electric vehicles

Unfortunately, owners of vehicles that do not meet the requirements of Art. 2 paragraph 12 of the Law of January 11, 2018 on electric vehicles and alternative fuels, which include vehicles with a hybrid engine (traditional internal combustion engine with an additional electric drive), cannot use the free parking option in paid city parking lots, as well as privileged use lanes for public transport. Benefits for hybrid vehicles have been removed as of April 1, 2020.
