Which gearbox is better to buy on the VAZ 2101-2107

Many owners of used VAZ “classic” cars, such as 2107 or 2106, mostly buy used units, such as an engine or gearbox. Think for yourself, a new engine on a VAZ 2107 costs at least 40 rubles, and a new gearbox-000 speed costs about 5 thousand rubles. If we consider options for buying a used motor or gearbox, then their cost turns out to be 15-3 times cheaper.

Choosing a checkpoint for a VAZ 2107

Surely before buying, many owners are faced with the question of which gearbox to choose: 4 or 5-speed. And it is impossible to unequivocally answer this question, since each car owner has his own needs. Therefore, below it is worth considering the pros and cons of both one and the other units.

4-speed gearbox

Most of such boxes were installed on VAZ 2107 cars from the first releases, and they were distinguished by exceptional reliability. It is worth remembering that many owners drove more than 300 km in their cars before the first overhaul of the engine, and they did not touch the checkpoint at all, since everything was fine with it! From personal experience, I can say that at one time the family had several VAZ cars, such as 000, 2101, 2103 and 2105. And on each of them the boxes were never repaired, although the mileage of each car was from 2107 to 200 thousand km.

As for the positive aspects. Basically, 4-speed gearboxes are installed either on weak old engines with a volume of less than 1300 cc, or on cars of the Niva family for more traction. I don’t think it’s worth explaining that 4-mortars are more durable and strong compared to 5-mortars.

These units began to be installed not so long ago, and the main advantage of such boxes is the accessory numbers. If earlier, when driving at 4 speeds, the car engine burst from high speeds, now this is not observed at 5 speeds, since at the same speed, the engine runs at lower speeds.

But that clarity when switching, which was on older gearboxes, is no longer there. The lever travel is a little loose and the engagement is not as crisp. But this is no longer surprising, since over time, all goods, and not only cars, began to be produced with lower quality.
