The hood is an integral part of any car. On the VAZ 2107, it is locked with a mechanical lock and opens with a cable coming from the passenger compartment. Despite the simplicity of these parts, over time they fail. To carry out repairs, you need to know what sequence of actions you need to perform.
Hood VAZ 2107 - why do you need it
The body part of the VAZ 2107 that covers the engine compartment is called the hood. The main purpose of the engine compartment cover is not only to cover, but also to protect the engine compartment from various external factors, increasing the aerodynamics of the car and absorbing noise from the engine. The material for the manufacture of the hood is the same metal that is used for the entire body.
The connection of the cover to the body is provided by means of hinges and bolted connections. The body part itself is made of two panels, which are interconnected by rolled edges and fastening by welding. Joints and seams are sealed with mastic. To adjust the hood on the "seven" there are holes in the hinges, which are larger in diameter than the fasteners.
Hood dimensions
The hood cover on the VAZ 2107 is endowed with such dimensions in mm: 950x70x1420. The weight of the part is 14 kg. Despite the fact that the element is hinged, it is nevertheless of considerable importance in the geometry of the entire body.
How is the soundproofing of the hood
Noise isolation of the hood is performed for obvious reasons - to reduce the level of noise that spreads from the engine not only to the outside, but also penetrates into the passenger compartment. To soundproof the hood of the "seven" or any other classic car, you will need the following tools and materials:
- building hair dryer;
- stitching roller;
- rags;
- cutting knife;
- scissors and a piece of cardboard;
- vibration isolation;
- soundproofing.
Vibroplast or Vizomat MP, Bimast Super can be used as a vibration-absorbing material, Splen 4–8 mm thick can serve as a sound insulator. Before starting work, it is necessary to clean the inner surface of the hood from dirt and degrease it, for example, with white spirit. If there is rust, it is cleaned to the metal, then a layer of soil is applied and waiting for it to dry. When soundproofing body parts, you should always adhere to the following rule: use vibration-absorbing material as the first layer.
To paste over the surface most accurately, you should make patterns from cardboard: cut out the material on them, remove the film and roll the elements with a roller. Vibration isolation is applied only between the stiffeners of the engine compartment cover. What can be noted about the second layer (noise-insulating): as a rule, there is no special need for it, since the first layer copes with the task perfectly. Noise insulation is mostly used as a heat insulator.
Installing the air intake on the hood
Installing an air intake on the hood of the VAZ 2107 allows you to solve two problems at the same time: the first of them has a functional meaning, and the second relates to changing the appearance of the car, i.e. tuning. When installing such a part as an air intake, a greater air flow is provided, which allows you not to turn on the heater fan when the machine is moving, regardless of the season. In addition, the element improves the design of not only the hood, but the whole car as a whole. To install this accessory on the car or not, it's up to you.
The most common air intakes are made of plastic. Some craftsmen make such parts with their own hands. It will take a minimum of time to install the element in question: installation is carried out using self-tapping screws through the ventilation grill on the hood. First, the fasteners are simply baited, the plastic part is aligned, and then finally screwed. Since there are two grilles on the hood of the VAZ 2107, the same number of air intakes will be needed.
Adjusting the hood
If the hood on the VAZ 2107 is located with a different clearance around the perimeter, the part needs to be adjusted. To do this, you need to outline the contours of the loops and disconnect the stop from the bracket, and then loosen the fastening of the loops. Enlarged holes in the hinges make it possible to adjust the position of the hood. After the procedure, the fasteners are tightened and the stop is set in place.
Bonnet support
A detail such as a stop allows you to hold the hood in the open position when repairing or servicing the car. The bar on the body and hood is attached by means of special brackets. In the upper part, the stop is fixed with a cotter pin, and in the lower part, thanks to the rubber tube, it fits tightly into the bracket. If there is a need to dismantle the rod, you need to remove the cotter pin with pliers, remove the washer and rubber bushing.

Hood seal
The hood seal on the "Zhiguli" of the seventh model, as well as on the other "classic", is designed for a tight fit of the body element and the elimination of its vibration during movement. The standard seal is a soft rubber product with a metal insert inside to stiffen it. Replacement of the element in question is required in case of wear and is reduced to removing the old seal from a special side and installing a new one. Many motorists are faced with situations when water accumulates in the air duct cavity, which enters under the hood during precipitation. Moisture, as you know, does not lead to anything good. To avoid this unpleasant situation, you can use the seal from the doors of the "seven", which is fixed along the upper edge of the engine compartment.

The hood lock is one of the main means of car protection, reducing the likelihood of theft and disassembly of the vehicle in parts. The VAZ 2107 has a mechanical type lock, which is opened with a special handle from the passenger compartment.
Lock device
The hood lock of the "seven" has a fairly simple device and consists of a body, a spring, an ejector, a cable and a handle. Despite the simplicity of the design, sometimes it becomes necessary to adjust or replace the mechanism. Adjustment is needed, as a rule, when closing the hood is problematic. A new lock has to be installed in case of wear of its elements, i.e. when the car is far from new. In addition, there are situations when the cable breaks, as a result of which it needs to be replaced. All these points are worth dwelling on in more detail.
How to adjust the hood latch
The main goal that is pursued when adjusting the hood lock on the VAZ 2107 is to achieve its high-quality work, that is, there should not be any difficulties when closing and opening. If the mechanism does not securely lock the hood or it requires a lot of effort to open it, then adjustment will help correct the situation. The procedure boils down to the following:
- Using a marker, outline the contours of the hood lock.
- Loosen the two nuts securing the mechanism with a 10 wrench.
- Move the lock body in the right direction, tighten the nuts and check the operation of the device.
- If necessary, the sequence of actions is repeated.

Hood cable
With the help of a cable, the force that is applied by the driver from the handle for opening the hood cover to the lock is transmitted. There are situations when the cable needs to be replaced:
- the cable moves with difficulty in the braid;
- there was a break in several threads of the lock drive;
- the lock rusted, which subsequently led to a break in the cable.
How to remove the cable
Before proceeding with the replacement of the hood cable, you will need to prepare the following list of necessary items:
- socket head or key for 10;
- flat screwdriver;
- narrow-nose pliers;
- marker.
Directly replacing the cable of the engine compartment cover on the "classic" is carried out in the following order:
- Open the hood.
- The castle is circled with a marker so that at the end of the work its location can be seen.
- Two clamps are removed, with which the cable is attached to the body. It is best to use a flat screwdriver for this purpose.
- The edge of the cable is aligned with narrow-nose pliers, after which the fixing sleeve located on the flexible element is shifted.
- Remove the cable from the latch on the lock.
- The lock is dismantled, for which two 10 nuts are unscrewed with a key or head and the mechanism is removed.
- In the passenger compartment of the car, the cable is removed from the braid with narrow-nose pliers.
- A rubber seal is found in the engine compartment and removed with a flat screwdriver. Next, the cable sheath is removed.
- The hood cable that has become unusable has been removed.

How to install a cable
Upon completion of the dismantling of the hood cable on the VAZ 2107, you can install a new part. The whole process is performed in reverse order:

How to open the hood if the cable breaks
A break in the hood cable on the "seven" is one of the unpleasant moments that can take the owner by surprise. The situation is difficult, but manageable. There are several options that will fix this problem, so let's look at each of them.
- Breakage of the cable near the handle of the lock drive. This type of breakdown is one of the simplest, since with the help of pliers you can pull the flexible element and open the lock.
- If the cable broke not near the lock or lever, you can try to remove it through the grill in the hood. To open the lock, you need to bend a hard wire hook, thread it through the grate and pull the lock drive with pliers. To facilitate the procedure, it is recommended to press the hood down in the area of the locking mechanism.
- The lock drive can be pulled out not through the air duct, but into the space between the body and the hood. In this case, the engine compartment lid is raised as much as possible, for which you can use a wooden block of a suitable size: it will prevent the hood from returning to its place. To avoid damage to the paint coating, the wooden part is wrapped with rags. After removing the cable, it remains only to pull on it.
- If there was a break in the lock drive directly near the mechanism, then attempts to extract it will not give any result. Since the hood lock on the VAZ 2107 is located near the windshield, the only thing left to do is try to hook the lock mechanism with a wire loop at the cable attachment point and pull this part. The procedure is not easy, but sometimes in the current situation there is no other way out.

How to extend cable life
In order not to have to open the hood lock on the "seven", resorting to various methods, it is better to service the mechanism in a timely manner. The procedure is as follows:
- Periodically lubricate the lock with grease (for example, Litol).
- Apply lubricant to the braid of the locking mechanism drive.
- Make a backup cable using thin and strong wire. It is attached to the lock in the place where the regular cable is fixed. In the event of a break in the drive, the hood can be opened by pulling on the backup wire.
The engine compartment cover of the VAZ 2107 is a simple body part that has such structural elements as a lock, a cable, loops and an emphasis. In order for these parts to last as long as possible, their rubbing surfaces must be periodically lubricated. If the cable or lock fails, they can be replaced in a garage without outside help.
