Camping sites in Croatia near tourist attractions

The campsites in Croatia are some of the best in Europe, and during the high season they are sought out and flocked by thousands of tourists. Croatia has been one of the most popular destinations for foreign travel for many years, including among campervan and caravan users.

In summer, thousands of caravanning enthusiasts come to Croatia. And this is not surprising, because we are talking about a country that offers tourists such a wide range of opportunities - from national parks to “ideal” beaches. The most important thing is that in most of these places you will find camping infrastructure, usually very well equipped.

Top of the list is an award-winning hotel located in a picturesque bay surrounded by dense pine forest, near Mali Lošinj, Croatia's largest island town. However, almost the entire coast of the Adriatic Sea is covered with campsites, and adequate infrastructure can also be found inland. You certainly won't complain about the lack of places to stop.

Croatian waters

There is no need to carry out special tests to confirm the purity of water in Croatia. Just look at the photos. The Adriatic Sea is one of the calmest and cleanest seas in the Mediterranean, which is eagerly enjoyed by lovers of water activities and sports. 6278 kilometers of coastline, 1244 islands, islets and sea ridges, thousands of marinas - if you are a water lover, this is the place for you. You can rent a yacht here in one of the many marinas available all year round.

Let us add that Croatia also has many rivers, the courses of which run through an extraordinary karst landscape. Kayaking in such conditions is pure pleasure!

Do you prefer the ground under your feet? Croatia is a paradise for lovers of outdoor activities, including hiking. And there are places to go while reminiscing about the country's postcard-worthy landscapes. You can get close to nature in eight national parks and eleven nature parks (including Plitvice Lakes, a UNESCO World Heritage Site). The fact that Croatia is one of the most ecologically preserved areas in Europe is confirmed by the fact that 10% of the country's territory is protected.

Do you like hiking in the mountains? Head to Biokovo, Vidova Gora or Dinara – Croatia's highest mountain peak. Do you relax best when in contact with nature? There are many swamps here, full of plants and animals. Croatia's land and waters are home to, among others, griffon vultures, brown bears, wild horses and dolphins.

The showcase of Croatia is its beaches, washed by the blue waters of the Adriatic Sea. They can be divided into several types: city beaches (for example, Banje in Dubrovnik), remote beaches (for example, on the island of Korcula and the sandy Lastovo), pebble beaches (the island of Vis), for windsurfers (Brac). All of them are impressive, some are even considered among the most beautiful in the world. Moreover, most of them are marked with a blue flag, which proves the cleanliness of the sea, safety and quality of services.

For body and soul

Or perhaps you are traveling to Croatia with the intention of experiencing its rich cultural heritage? Numerous museums, churches and cathedrals invite you to visit. Diocletian's Palace in Split, the city walls in Dubrovnik, the historical center of Trogir or the Euphrasian Basilica complex in Porec, not to mention the intangible heritage (Croatian flap, ojkanje or Sinska Alka).

Croatia can be divided into culinary regions with their own distinct cuisine. The one on the coast is different from the one located inland, near Zagreb - on the Adriatic Sea there are Italian notes (pizza, pasta), the menu is dominated by fish and seafood dishes; In the interior of Croatia, Central European dishes predominate (stewed and baked meats, cream pies).

You can eat well both in a classic restaurant and in a family restaurant, the so-called konoba, which can be either a small hotel or a large - albeit with a simple menu based on local products - restaurant. There are also pivnitsy, i.e. beer houses (most often), cavarny ones, where cakes and ice cream are served, and sweet shops, i.e. confectionery shops.

Ferries for motorists

If you go on holiday to Croatia with your own transport, you will most likely use the ferry crossing. After all, Croatia is a country of thousands of islands on which the most attractive resorts, including camping sites, are located. You can easily reach some islands without taking a ferry. This is the case, for example, with the island of Krk, which is connected to the mainland by the huge Krcki Bridge.

You can also get to Krk by plane. The airport is located in Rijeka, near Omišalj. It is not far from this historic city, on the shores of the Adriatic Sea, in the quiet but noisy Pushcha Bay, that the popular. You can get there in your own campervan, or you can stay in one of the glamping sites. The camper sites are equipped to the highest ADAC standards. There are enough of them on the campsite, all numbered and connected to water, electricity and sewerage. Here you can count on all the amenities and satisfy your hunger in the restaurant, which serves delicious Mediterranean cuisine. Would you like to go swimming? Dive into one of the pools or walk straight into the sea straight from the campsite.

Istria

Krk is the largest island in Croatia, and the title of the largest Croatian peninsula belongs to Istria. With easy access, a Mediterranean climate, breathtaking scenery, delicious food and world-class caravan infrastructure, it's no wonder this blue-green region is considered one of the best caravan destinations in Europe.

While on holiday in Istria, be sure to visit Rovinj, a charming town dotted with a network of tiny alleys, gates, lanes and squares. Thanks to its picturesque location and historical architecture, travelers from all over the world call this place the “pearl of the Adriatic”. It is here that you will find, which offers accommodation on 300 spacious plots, gently sloping down to the coast. Plots of up to 140 m² generally have access to running water, thanks to their natural location right next to the shore. Those who rent the remaining plots, located a little further from the water, can look forward to beautiful views of the sea.

Rovinj, Vrsar, Pula, Porec, Labin, Motovun... are just some of the cities that are worth including in your Istrian travel plan. Campsites can be found in the centers of most of these resorts or, in the worst case, on their outskirts, so we still have to walk to the most important points.

South of Croatia? Dubrovnik!

The orange color of Dubrovnik's rooftops, contrasting with the blue of the sea, is one of Croatia's most recognizable landmarks. Several years ago, the city experienced a real tourism boom, and not only because of its beautiful location or monuments. Fans of the series “Game of Thrones” began to flock here in search of places where the cult series was filmed. Dubrovnik residents quickly turned this seasonal popularity into a business. Today you can hire a guide here who will be happy to show you in the footsteps of the Game of Thrones heroes, and at the same time tell you about the real, often more interesting history of this ancient city.

The only campsite at this UNESCO World Heritage Site is just 10 minutes' drive from the historic Old Town. This oasis of tranquility is surrounded by a green Mediterranean park and is close to the beach.

National parks of central Croatia

In the north is amazing Istria, in the south are fabulous Dubrovnik and Split. But the central part of Croatia also deserves our attention. Here you will find, among other things: Kornati National Park. This amazing archipelago, spread over 89 islands and inhabited by just a few people, is primarily a paradise for divers - the waters of the park hide real reefs. Here you can see several species of starfish, sponges, colorful fish and octopuses. In turn, the visiting card of the Krka National Park is the cascading waterfalls. You can walk here for hours along the winding paths and wooden bridges.

Where to stay? Zaton Holiday Resort is located near Zadar, a huge campsite, one of the largest in Croatia, offering more than 1500 places to stay. A long sandy beach, water parks, bars and restaurants, markets and small shops, the possibility of renting water equipment... - everything is here!
