Kia Carens 1.8i 16V Ls Full Option

At Kia, they presented their vision of a family friend in the form of the Carens limousine van. A close relative of Carnival stands next to Senik, Zafira and Picasso. Carens is the longest among competitors, which is also noticeable in the interior space, as it is the largest base luggage compartment behind the rear bench - its volume is 617 liters.

Unfortunately, this is also not the first place in terms of flexibility. It gets stuck when you want to fit slightly longer items into the trunk, but there is no room there. The reason lies in the non-removable back bench, which cannot be turned over, much less removed.

Kia offers an additional option - a six-seater version of the Carens. It has two seats in three rows, with third-row seating only recommended for small children, and leaves very little luggage space that can store just the toiletries of all the passengers in the car.

Carens may not be the friendliest of the slightly larger items of luggage, so it has a lot more room for passengers. Thus, the passengers in the rear seat have ample knee room even when the front seats are completely retracted.

The latter is due to the installation of the front seat rails far forward, which allows the front seats to be moved almost to the dashboard, but then there will be no legroom left. You can also adjust the tilt of the rear seat backrest. Basically, it is in a comfortable position, so there is no need to keep the body upright, but you can tilt it back even more and thus make even more use of the comfort available in the back seat. Oh yeah. Another car in which it is better to ride in the back than in the front.

However, the driving position, as in similarly designed vehicles, is very similar to sitting in a truck. The latter is mainly due to the fact that the steering wheel is too flat, adjustable in height and located vertically in front of it. The seats are padded and don't provide enough support for the lumbar spine, which you will especially feel on long trips, after which you get out of the car in serious condition.

Inside, there is cheap plastic on the dashboard and pleasant-to-touch seats on the seats. Saving in Korean is noticeable this time in a different (new to me) way. They couldn't find a seat in Kia's car for an hour! How is this possible, don't ask me, but the fact is that you only have a watch in your car if you have a car radio with it.

When you get behind the wheel and start the engine, you are greeted by six loud “actions” that force you to put on your seat belt. Yes, Kia also started to worry more about safety, and even if they annoy you a little, you will at least get used to being tethered before starting the engine, because then the doji will not annoy you.

To make it easier to turn on the lights, you might also want to consider daytime running lights from the list of accessories. They connect to the handbrake according to Kia's prescription. As a result, a dangerous surprise may strike you at night. Namely, when you apply the parking brake in the middle of a slope (for example, in front of a traffic light), the lights will go out, requiring you to turn them back on with the switch on the steering wheel, while risking reversing. end of collision. noticed.

Kia has exclusively dedicated a 1-litre four-cylinder engine to Carens that develops a maximum power of 8 kW at 81 rpm. The fact that the engine is not entirely economical is evidenced by the eloquent fuel consumption in the test, which amounted to 5750 liters per 11 kilometers. In addition, a loud announcement about the operation of the engine will remind you that you will sit in an inexpensive car, the main purpose of which is not to spoil people, but to transport them from point A to point B.

The latter is due to the poor insulation of the engine compartment from the cab, which is especially noticeable from about 4000 rpm of the main engine shaft onwards.

After reviving the engine on a cold morning, I advise you not to force yourself to survive on the road for the next few minutes. During this time, the engine is in the "first phase" of heating, during which coughing is also possible. Then the engine runs beautifully and surprisingly smoothly.

The engine agility is satisfactory, which also allows for a bit of laziness when shifting, while for "sporty" responsiveness you still have to reach for the gear lever several times. It sits too low and quite close to the driver's seat and is associated with a precise but significantly too slow transmission, which will be especially noticeable when shifting gears quickly.

To stop the "low-flying" Carens, disc brakes on all four wheels, which are already supported by the ABS system as standard, come to your rescue. Despite the average stopping distance, the brakes leave a sense of confidence thanks to good brake force control and ABS.

Despite the soft chassis, we were surprised at the good handling of this vehicle when chasing down twisty roads, but the possibility of twisting the rear end when suddenly and quickly changing direction should not be neglected. If you exaggerate, then the front of the car comes out of the turn, which was previously indicated by the "feather" rear. The soft suspension causes headaches when swallowing short bumps, making swallowing longer bumps even more efficient and comfortable. An additional consequence of the soft suspension and high bodywork is also a strong lean when cornering.

The model in the test was the most richly equipped and, as such, was labeled LS Full Option. The label itself speaks of the "complete" perfect and, in general, care and protection of almost all toys and accessories that are in great demand today. The only short list of accessories includes daytime running lights, metallic paint and an automatic transmission. The dealer will ask you for over three million tolar for a "full option" vehicle, which means a solid purchase.

After all, when you draw the line, summing up all the qualities and eliminating some of the car's imperfections, you will find that the Kia Carens can be a wonderful and reliable family friend.

evaluation

  • The Kia Carens is, for the most part, a good car. Of course, it has its flaws and drawbacks, but what car doesn't have them. If you need a car with a spacious trunk, slightly less maneuverability and good equipment for a reasonable price, then do not hesitate to buy. To satisfy all other wishes, I recommend that you simply look at the competitors.
