Kia e-Niro vs Hyundai Kona Electric - COMPARISON models and verdict [What Car, YouTube]

What Car has done a great comparison between Hyundai Kona Electric and Kia e-Niro. The cars are equipped with similar battery drives (power 64 kWh, power 150 kW), but differ in equipment and, most importantly, dimensions: Hyundai Kona Electric is a B-SUV, and Kia e-Niro is an SUV. a longer vehicle that already belongs to the C-SUV segment. The best in the review was the Kia e-Niro.

Driving experience

The Hyundai Kona Electric seems to be more nervous on the road, and if you press the accelerator hard, tires with low rolling resistance will lose traction faster. On the other hand, the handling of the e-Niro comes across as reliable but not too emotional. Interestingly, the Kia e-Niro has been described as more comfortable and quieter on the inside, although it is cheaper than the Kona Electric.

Power train and battery

As already mentioned, both cars are equipped with the same 150 kW (204 hp) powertrain and battery with the same usable capacity: 64 kWh. However, the cars vary slightly in range, with the Kia e-Niro offering 385 kilometers on a single charge, while the Hyundai Kona Electric offers 415 kilometers in mixed mode in good weather. According to the What Car Kia test, it was 407 and 417 kilometers, respectively - that is, Kia exceeded all expectations. and not much worse than his cousin.

When connected to a wall-mounted charging station with a capacity of at least 7 kW, the on-board chargers replenish the energy in the batteries within 9:30 hours (Hyundai) or 9:50 hours (Kia), respectively. With a fixed DC charging station, both vehicles take 1:15 hours to fully charge the vehicle. We will replenish energy reserves even faster at the 100 kW charging station – but today we have two of them in Poland.

Interiors

The Hyundai Kona Electric is well built, but some plastics and parts feel cheap for the car's price. Equipment includes a Head-Up Display (HUD), which Kia doesn't even have. Mounted in the center of the cab, the 7- or 10-inch LCD screen stays in sight while driving and does not get in the way. The interface works with a slight delay, especially in navigation.

In turn in Kii e-Niro interior makes an impression even cheaper, but the materials are sometimes better, and due to the larger size of the car, the driver has more space for himself. In the car, the placement of the LCD screen built into the dashboard was criticized - as a result, in order to read something from it, you have to look away from the road and lower it.

As a curiosity - which however varies by country - it's worth adding that the e-Niro in the UK comes with heated front seats as standard, while the Konie Electric needs to upgrade to a higher package.

Differences in vehicle length are most noticeable in the back seat. In the e-Niro, the passenger has 10 centimeters more legroom, which makes the ride in the car more comfortable even for tall people.

The larger size of the younger sister is also visible in the luggage compartment. Without folding the seats The trunk volume of the Kia e-Niro is 451 liters., till The luggage compartment of the Hyundai Kona Electric is almost 120 liters less and is only 332 liters.... When the seatbacks are folded down, the difference becomes even more pronounced: 1 liter for the Kia versus 405 liters for the Hyundai.

Summation

Kia e-Niro was considered better... Not only does it offer more range than expected, it has more cabin space, it is also cheaper than the Hyundai Kona Electric.

Around Poland the base price for an e-Niro 64 kWh should start from about 180-190 thousand PLN.while the Hyundai Kona Electric jumps from 190 PLN at the start and the well-equipped variants cost 200 + thousand PLN.
