Rivian customers can wait up to two years to receive their R1T and R1S order.

Rivian was unable to keep up with production of the R1T and R1S due to the number of booked orders. The brand said it expects to fulfill orders for more than 55,000 2023 electric vehicles by the end of the year.

Those with pre-orders for Rivian's shiny new electric car can now have a better idea of ​​how long they'll be waiting for their car. 

Up to two years waiting to receive your Rivian

An excerpt from the Securities and Exchange Commission documents discovered by a member of the Rivian Owners Forum indicates that the current number of pre-orders is expected before the end of 2023. This means that those who have a spot in line today can wait up to two more years before getting your car.

“Based on our current production forecast, we expect to complete pre-orders for approximately 55,400 R1 vehicles by the end of 2023 year,” the document says. Rivian filed for publication early last month and pre-orders are for the very impressive R1T pickup or RS SUV. 

Rivian inventory is not 100% sold cars.

Of course, a $1,000 deposit may be required for each pre-order, but this deposit is non-refundable, meaning that not all pre-orders will result in the car ending up in the customer's garage. It's unclear if Rivian's production plans include cancellation.

It's also worth noting that the R1S hasn't entered production yet, although it's expected to happen soon.

Rivian favors Amazon delivery vans

To give these numbers some context, due to the pre-COVID chip shortage, Ford sold 64,816 150 F-2019s in its weakest month of the year. Of course, since Rivian is a much newer, smaller company creating a much newer product in the midst of a supply chain disaster, it was unreasonable to expect it to even come close to the Blue Oval's production numbers. 

This is especially true when you remember that he has larger fish to fry in the form of Amazon delivery vans.
