Mazda will unveil the new CX-50 on November 15 and expect it to be a true SUV.

Mazda is going to release a new Mazda CX-50 SUV, but it will not replace the CX-5. On the contrary, it will be the first off-road-oriented SUV, and it will be presented on November 15th.

We are getting closer to showing the new Mazda SUV. On Monday, the Japanese automaker posted on Twitter a brief overview of its new CX-50 SUV. It will be a completely new model based on the company's small car platform and related to.

SUV ready to drive

Indeed, the teaser doesn't reveal too much about the next SUV. We can't even get a good look at the car during the short video attached to the tweet. You can just see a new car driving down some dirt road from the point of view of someone watching it from the trees above. Judging by the way Mazda is approaching this, it looks like the CX-50 will be trying to achieve more off-road credibility than some of Mazda's previous SUVs.

CX-50 will not replace any model

You might think that the CX-50 will be an absolute replacement for the CX-5, but in fact it is not. Instead, Mazda continues to constantly update the CX-5 as an entry-level model, and its new double-digit nomenclature SUVs contain all the really new stuff. The CX-50 starts before we get the new CX-70 and CX-90 to replace the current CX-9. The CX-70 and CX-90 will introduce turbocharged inline-six engines and plug-in hybrid powertrains with new platforms.

However, the CX-50 kicks off the party. We'll know when Mazda is ready to show us all of this on November 15th, so we have to be very careful about the details the company provides.
