Coffee maker or french press - how to use? Which French press to choose?

Coffee machines, coffee makers, drippers, alternative ways… The coffee world is full of different, more or less sophisticated conveniences with Smart functions, automatic cleaning or the ability to prepare two cups of coffee at the same time. But what if you want some tried-and-true simplicity? French press is the perfect combination of low price, aromatic coffee and ease of brewing.

How does a coffee maker work and what does it consist of?

A French coffee maker consists of three simple components:

  • Utensils with handles made of glass or plastic,
  • Plunger with which the coffee grounds are filtered,
  • A fine filter is attached to the piston, through which the finished drink is filtered.

The coffee pot is based on a very simple mechanism: brewing coffee inside a vessel, waiting for a certain time, and then filtering the brewed drink from grounds and ground coffee residues using a filter worn on a piston. Just one preparation of coffee in this way will allow you to quickly remember the entire procedure. The French press is also suitable for brewing tea or herbs.

Brewing coffee in the brewing unit - is it difficult?

Fans of this method of brewing will surely find that it is the easiest of all - no need to use a filter every time, cycle descaling or anything other than a simple rinse after each use.

Before brewing coffee in a French press, it's worth figuring out which type is best for this method. Well, the coffee doesn't have to be the best. Remember to keep the filter open, otherwise the brewed coffee may acquire an unpleasant astringent aftertaste as a result of inaccurate filtering.

The way the beans are roasted is also an important aspect. The coffee maker has no preferences in this regard - both light and dark and medium roast beans will do just fine in it. The French press offers great opportunities for experimenting with the taste of the prepared drink, so that every coffee lover has the opportunity to form their own taste preferences.

Before using this method, you need to prepare hot filtered water, coffee to the extent of fine grinding to your taste, a mixing spoon and the coffee maker itself. That's it - no more tools needed. You should also keep in mind the general ratio of about 6 grams of coffee to 100 milliliters of water.

Coffee maker - how to use it?

The whole process is as follows:

  1. Pour the desired amount of coffee into the container.
  2. Pour some water over the ground beans. Wait about 30 seconds and stir the solution.
  3. Add the rest of the water and cover the pan with a lid without pressing the plunger.
  4. Wait about 3-4 minutes for the coffee to fully brew.
  5. Lower the filter to the bottom of the vessel by pressing the plunger.
  6. Pour coffee into your chosen dish.

As you can see, this whole process is not particularly difficult - primarily because of the simplicity of the method used. However, there are several aspects to consider when using these types of products.

First of all, the coffee maker must have working seals on the sides of the filter. Thanks to this, coffee grounds will not get into the drink and will not spoil its consistency and taste. It is also important to keep the filter clean. The best solution is to wash it regularly after each use. Remaining coffee grounds can be quite difficult to remove.

Which coffee pot should you buy?

Different copies of the French press are made by many companies such as Klausberg, Ambition and Berlinger Haus. The differences between the functionality of the various products in this category are not significant. One main parameter is important - the capacity of the vessel. Other differences between the products of these and other companies are mainly in the visual design. It is best to choose a coffee maker that will stylistically match with other items on display in your kitchen.

As you can see, a French press can be a great alternative to complex and expensive electrical appliances - it prepares coffee quickly, reliably and, most importantly, is easy to use. See how great it will work in your kitchen too!
