When should fog lights be used?

Most cars used to come with high and low beam headlights only. It was about it. Fog lights were introduced to make highway driving safer in foggy conditions. Many new cars come with fog lights as standard equipment, but it's surprising how many drivers don't actually understand when to use these lights. There is a simple answer here - when it's foggy.

It's all about the name

Fog lights are not bright enough to replace regular headlights at night. They also do not provide sufficient illumination of the edge of the road. They are also not bright enough to replace headlights in the rain. So when should they be used?

Fog lights are additional headlights designed to enhance the headlights when driving in fog only. They should only be used in foggy conditions.

How do fog lights work?

Fog lights are specifically designed to be used in, you guessed it, fog. Your regular headlights can create glare in fog as light bounces off water particles in the air. Because of their unique design, fog light beams are also different from your headlights. The beam is emitted wide and flat, creating a "band". The low position of the headlights at the front of the vehicle also contributes to visibility in fog.

use Features

Many regions effectively prohibit the use of fog lights in conditions other than fog or mist, or other severe weather conditions that may require their use. The brightness of the light can actually pose a safety hazard as it can dazzle other drivers, leading to an accident.

Thus, fog lights should only be used in foggy or hazy conditions, and then with caution. Never drive with the fog lights on unless the weather conditions require it.
