Wheeled mini e-bikes arrive in Berlin

American startup Wheels has just put 200 copies of its strange electric bike in Berlin. The first vehicle fleet will expand depending on changes in demand.

American startup Wheels, presented at Autonomy in 2019, is announcing one of its first concrete achievements in Europe.

Wheels uses the same principle in terms of operation as its competitors. Using the app, the user can find nearby cars and unlock them using a QR code. The invoice for the service is one euro at the time of booking, followed by 20 cents per minute.

However, the machines used are much more original. Halfway between the bike and the electric scooter, these two-wheeled bikes are mounted on small wheels with a pattern similar to folding e-bikes. The saddle is low, allowing the user to easily place their feet on the ground. Without pedals, the wheeled bike comes alive with the throttle grip on the handlebars. An operation that theoretically classifies a car as a moped.

On the technical side, Wheels doesn't quite convey the characteristics of its electric two-wheeler. We do know, however, that it is powered by an electric motor built into the rear wheel and powered by a removable battery located in the seat tube.

In Berlin, Wheels has already placed 200 copies of its car and says it is ready to expand the fleet if demand arises.
