Audi is just a premium brand and we know what that label means. Higher reputation and, of course, higher prices. At least this has been the case so far with the new Audi A3, the first offered to customers based on the new design approach at the Volkswagen Group. Common platforms for most front transverse engine, front wheel drive vehicles are called MQB, derived from Modularer Querbaukasten acronym. The A3 immediately convinced me of this new design.

So it will be in the future, with a convincing appearance, a reliable position on the road, relatively comfortable, although for our roads, a slightly stiff suspension, with excellent prevention of any sounds from under the chassis to the car. cabin. Even the operation of the diesel engine is practically inaudible. The build quality leaves an excellent impression, all contacts (on the case or inside) are really exemplary. In the Sportback version of the body, this Audi is most useful as it has a door for each passenger, and a luggage compartment in the rear allows easy access to the not-so-convincingly large boot. But you know, by switching the rear bench, you can increase the trunk ...

On the other hand, the engine equipment makes the A3 a relatively economical car. Audi is offering an even more fuel-efficient version with the Ultra label, but in that case, some useful ingredients from the equipment list will have to be omitted. The TDI Clean Diesel engine is now designed to make standard fuel consumption seem incredibly low at just 3,4 liters per hundred kilometres. We had significantly more on a standard lap, with an average real consumption of 4,9 liters per hundred kilometers, after all, we can still be quite happy with an average test of 5,7 liters per hundred kilometers.

The combination of a reasonably powerful engine and a six-speed gearbox encourages you to push the gas too hard. However, Audi's premium approach to vehicle equipment is still familiar. If you want to listen to the music of your choice or - strictly according to the rules of the road - talk on a mobile phone in the car, even the best "packet" equipment will not help. In our test case, in addition to the corresponding connectivity, we also missed the cruise control. So, if you were to choose a car for home use, you would definitely have to add a little more than a thousand euros to really convince the time-tested Audi A3. But who else today can refuse a cell phone? Thanks to the new pricing policy, the Audi A3 is now indeed more attractive, but it's still more than just a vehicle and it's what can be summed up as the brand's reputation.
