Brief test: Mazda CX-5 CD150 Attraction

Once upon a time there were not many of them, after all, it all started in earnest with the arrival of the Toyota RAV4 and shortly after the Honda CR-V, but now the choice is rich. But crossovers with only front-wheel drive are very popular (both in price and in consumption).

With the Mazda CX-5, as usual in this class, you may want a car with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. I know you should be told that four-wheel drive is a must, which is good to know you can rely on it when the ground gets slippery under your wheels (which wasn't uncommon this long winter), but the truth is it's a little different. . Many of these cars won't see snowy mountain roads from a distance, and the most that can happen to them is a snowy driveway from a garage. And at the same time, choosing a model with only front-wheel drive is actually logical, especially when financial possibilities are limited.

The cost of such a Mazda CX-5 for testing is a little less than 28 thousand rubles. With all-wheel drive, it will cost two thousand more - and for that money, if you need comfort, you can choose an automatic transmission. Or you can just save that money and drive the next 20 miles. Yes, math is ruthless.

Whether you choose front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, the Mazda CX-5 is a solid choice in this class. True, the longitudinal movement of the front seats could be a little more, since the driver's seat, when it is moved all the way back, is still too close to the pedals for drivers taller than 190 centimeters. And yes, the air conditioner will be able to defrost the interior a little better on wet snowy days. But on the other hand, it should be noted that it sits well, that there is enough space and that we can't blame the CX-5's serious mistakes in ergonomics.

The new generation 2,2-liter diesel had 5 kilowatts or 110 "horsepower" in the test CX-156, so it was the weaker of the two options. But given that such a CX-5 weighs only 150 tons (of course, mainly because it does not have all-wheel drive), these XNUMX "horses" are not undernourished. Quite the opposite: when it is slippery under the wheels, the electronics have to work hard to tame the cavalry, and on the highway the car does not lose the joy of acceleration. And since the engine is flexible enough at low rpm, consumption can be advantageously low: in the test it settled on a good seven liters, in economical ones it will be one liter less, and more than eight you get only at really high rpm. average on the highway.

The label "Attraction" means an average set of equipment, but in fact it does not need anything. Everything from bluetooth to parking sensors, from bi-xenon headlights to blind spot monitoring, from automatic high beams to heated front seats, is there to make driving life easier (but not truly luxurious).

Last but not least, when you drive to locks (like in a car park) that rise in front of you and you feel like you don't need to brake because it will just work, expect collision avoidance. system to slow down SCBS for you ...

evaluation

  • If you don't need four-wheel drive, you probably won't need it, even if you want to drive a crossover. If so, don't miss the Mazda CX-5 when choosing the right model. Whatever the test, it's a great combination.
