Short test: Renault Clio dCi 90 Dynamique Energy

This new Clio works like Lucky, doesn't it? Just look at the photo. The editorial office is always glad to have an interesting color of the car's exterior, as it pleasantly enlivens the increasingly frequent "gray" test fleet of car dealerships. The color in question is on the price list under the special color paragraph, and we are used to being charged for it. However, paint will cost you an additional 190 euros here, which is not much for such a dose of invigorating exterior.

The story continues inside. In addition to the Dynamique equipment level, the test car was flavored with the Trendy package. This is the personalization of some decorative elements in the interior and a combination of colored upholstery. The rest of the Clio looks pretty sophisticated inside. The overwhelming majority of the buttons have been "saved" in the information device, so only the air conditioner control commands remain under it. Here we quickly stumbled upon rotary knobs, by which it is difficult to determine the position of the desired setting, and the strength of the fan rotation is best guessed by ear. There is plenty of storage space, but there are two more drink racks in a convenient spot under the gear lever. If everything was covered with rubber, it would be much better, so the plastic would become a little more rigid, which prevents us from putting our mobile phone in there.

It fits well in the Clio. Even tall people quickly find a good seat behind the wheel, because if we can push the seat back a lot, we can also move the steering wheel (which is adjustable in depth). Anyone who always holds it correctly will quickly notice the slightly sharper edges of the plastic where the thumbs grip the steering wheel. Unfortunately, in the new generation, the steering levers from the previous Clios are repetitive, tearing your nerves with inaccurate movements and poorly defined intervals between functions. In light rain, you also quickly get discouraged by the rain sensor. If we say that this is not working properly, we will be rather lenient.

There is enough space in the back and sits pretty well. Since the car's outer arch does not drop as sharply, there is also plenty of headroom for passengers. ISOFIX anchors are easily accessible and fastening the belts is not a painful task for your fingers.

While we wrote about the petrol engine in the first Clio test, this time we tested the turbodiesel version. However, since this is a well-known 1,5-liter engine, we will not write novels in the style of Dostoevsky. Obviously, the advantages of diesel engines over gasoline engines (and vice versa) are now well known to all of us. So whoever chooses a diesel version will do so because of their way of using this car, and not so much because of sympathy for a certain engine technique. We can only say that Klia's '90s "cavalry" works well, so you won't trip over a lack of power. You will miss sixth gear more often if your daily routine is highway miles. At a speed of 130 kilometers per hour, the tachometer shows the number 2.800, which means more engine noise and higher fuel consumption.

What do you think Srechko's new story will be like? They say that once the competition was not as fierce as it is today. That the game has become more aggressive. The judges are stricter. People want more for their money. Of course, we are not talking about football ...

evaluation

  • The first generation Clio had an easier job because there was little competition. Now that it is huge, Renault had to honestly spit in its hands in order to maintain the dignity of this model and the title of the yardstick for everyone else.
