Short test: Ford Tourneo Custom 2.0 EcoBlue 170 KM Limited

At first glance, a large van that can seat up to eight passengers does not seem dynamic, bordering on sportiness, but we would say that it is primarily intended for the relatively comfortable travel of large groups. The latter is true, as there is more than enough space in the two separate front seats, as well as the two benches behind them, all covered in leather. Rear passengers can even adjust the air conditioning on their own.

But as you take the wheel and drive away, you soon realize that the Tourneo Custom is a much more dynamic car than it looks. It excels in performance for what it was designed for, handling even the tightest of corners with confidence, as long as the road isn't too narrow, while at the same time the chassis handles bumps well.

The engine, a 2-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel that delivered 170 horsepower in the most powerful version fitted to the test car, also contributes greatly to the Tournea Custom's driving feel. more than enough for measurements from the city to 100 mph in a solid 12,3 seconds. The vehicle's flexibility was also high in terms of vehicle size and weight, and despite fairly unforgiving use, fuel consumption was also found to be relatively low.

So could the Ford Tourneo Custom live up to its reputation as an escape car? In such a configuration, as it came to the test, it would be quite possible.

  • The Ford Tourneo Custom is a very comfortable car in the very well-equipped version we tested, but it also evokes a rather sporty feel and a desire to drive it a lot, despite being a van.
