Short test: Honda Civic Tourer 1.6 i-DTEC Lifestyle

Adjustable rear dampers, which the driver assigns to sportier or more comfortable settings at the touch of a button, are the most important contributors to safety, as the difference is most apparent when the boot is fully loaded, and also emphasizes the sporty character of the car. And we are talking about a family version with a turbodiesel engine!

The difference in rear axle settings may not be that big, but noticeable. The boot has also increased significantly, as the 624-liter Tourer is 147 liters larger than the classic five-door version. When we add to that information a third-divisible rear bench that provides a flat bottom of the boot, a 12V power outlet, a hook for a shopping bag and an easily removable tarpaulin, the Civic Tourer has a lot to offer. his sleeve.

Its cosmic instrument panel is not liked by many drivers, but it must be admitted that it is transparent, with logically placed gauges. Interestingly, unlike the Peugeot 308, the Civic has much less complaints about the small (sporty) leather steering wheel and instrument layout (three round analogues at the bottom, a large digital entry at the top). Maybe the credit for this can also be attributed to the driver's higher position, even though he sits on shell seats? Well, you quickly get used to the instruments, they are clearly visible even in the sun, but for many years they have been known only from the screen at the top of the center console - the graphics could be more modern.

In technology, we were once again able to admire the filigree precision of the individual sets. Competitors will find it difficult to achieve more precise operation of the aluminum accelerator, clutch and brake pedals, as well as the steering mechanism, as the traditionally dynamic Ford Focus is only getting closer to this, and the drivetrain is roughly reminiscent of sporty-style pleasure. We can only boast of S2000 or Type R. Speed and precision give the driver the feeling that you are least Senna in his best years in the Honda F1 race car.

Among the most important equipment (VSA stabilization system, front, side and side airbags, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, cruise control, LED daytime running lights and 17-inch alloy wheels) are much-needed front and rear parking sensors. ..and a reverse camera; the rear windows are getting narrower in favor of dynamism, so the visibility behind the car is very modest. Without gadgets, parking in the city center would be a nightmare.

Finally, we come to the aluminum engine, which is lighter in weight in favor of lighter pistons and connecting rods and thinner cylinder walls (only eight millimeters). They pulled out 1,6 kilowatts from the 88-liter volume, which is more than enough for a comfortable ride even with a fully loaded car. The fact that the gear lever needs to be trimmed a little more often during this time is not considered a disadvantage for the Civic Tourer, because, as we mentioned, the gearbox is really good. The normal circuit with the ECON function (different work of the connection of the accelerator pedal and the engine) showed a consumption of 4,7 liters, which is good, but not very; a competing 308 SW with a similar engine consumed half a liter less per 100 kilometers.

In the end, just a hint: if I were the owner of this car, I would first of all think about the sportier tires. It's a shame to compromise on great technology, even if you risk slightly increasing your intake.
