Short test: Hyundai ix35 1.6 GDI Comfort

The engine, also known from the i20 or i30, in the slightly larger and heavier ix35 is still powerful enough for normal driving (but not XNUMXWD). But if we need a faster jump or we do not care how many kilometers we can travel with one gas station, then take into account the advice whether a turbodiesel of the same high power is more acceptable for you than for the Slovenian majority. It was only then that we could say that Comfort equipment (second in number of different items of equipment allowed) would also fit well into something more than the basic needs of driving a car.

The equipment package (Comfort) on the test car seemed to us very successful - with a lot of what the driver really needs (Bluetooth, cruise control, dual-zone air conditioning, radio and telephone control buttons on the steering wheel, rear parking sensors, longitudinal roof racks), as well as some decorations - seat covers in a combination of leatherette and fabric.

Praise to the passenger compartment and the feeling in the car. At the end of the day, space is good, thanks in part to slightly more upright seats, which also provide quite acceptable forward visibility. Rear parking sensors solve some of the problems with rear visibility. Solar windows (windshield and both side facades) and tinted windows - those in the rear of the car - reduce the possibility of heating the passenger compartment in the sun.

On the other hand, it is true that this ix35 can also be given a slightly more modest motor equipment: after all, it saves 2.500 euros when buying, which are then difficult to “return” with such an economical trip (by almost XNUMX%). the same price for both types of fuel). If we look at the resulting fuel consumption test data from this angle, even an average test exceeding nine liters of fuel used will not result in higher maintenance costs than with a turbodiesel. But so far, such an average consumption is slightly overestimated (according to our standard circle, which differs from the factory one by almost a liter).

Hyundai ix35 still behaves quite solidly on the road. The high-mounted body does not encourage you to rush into corners too much, because even there you can’t resort to the usual equipment of similar cars - all-wheel drive. The chassis soaks up normal road bumps well, we have a bit more trouble (read: transferring bumps to the passenger compartment) with really quite short bumps.

More disappointing, however, is the rather poor braking performance, as with 44m stopping distance in our test, the ix35 ended up at the bottom of our list. And if in an emergency you run out of four or five meters, you must be very careful on each ride to cope with dangerous situations. Although the ix35 is equipped with all standard passive safety accessories.

evaluation

  • Although richly equipped, the ix35 with a base petrol engine is a less acceptable choice, which, in our opinion, cannot be justified even by a significantly lower price.

We praise and reproach

the creak of a box between the front seats

low quality plastic in the interior

unresponsive and uneconomical engine
