Short test: Kia Stonic 1.4 MPI EX Motion
SUVs or crossovers around the world, and especially in Europe, are experiencing a real boom, but most of them never fulfill their second role, that is, field visits, but more or less remain on well-groomed asphalt surfaces. This is one of the reasons why many brands only offer front-wheel drive, including Kia, which entered the class last year with the Stonic.
Sasha Kapetanovich
As we have noted many times, the Stonic is closer to small station wagons than SUVs, so there is nothing wrong with that. Thus, it largely retained the lively driving performance of small city limousines (of course, in this case we mean the Kio Rio), while at the same time, due to the greater distance from the ground, easier access to the seats. and, ultimately, work with child seats. Since the seats in the taller cabin are more upright, the spaciousness of the passenger compartment is a better impression of a station wagon. The Stonic also advocates covering city kilometers with a good view of the surrounding area, and the raised chassis is better at handling speed bumps and similar road obstacles.
Combined with the limousine's fairly versatile ride quality, the engine on which the test Stonic was installed also proved to be good. In this case, it was a 1,4-liter four-cylinder that develops the same 100 "horsepower" as the weaker three-cylinder liter engine (you can read the Ston-equipped test in the first issue of Avto magazine this year). but the turbine fan does not help it develop power. As a result, its torque is lower, which affects agility and therefore acceleration, which of course does not reach the acceleration of a Stonica with a turbocharged gasoline engine. The Kie Stonic with this engine isn't slow, however, as it does a great job of day-to-day city and highway commutes, and with a little more gear lever work, it even displays some sportiness.
You can’t expect excessive savings from a naturally aspirated four-cylinder gasoline engine, but consumption on the standard scheme turned out to be relatively good - 5,8 liters, but a good half liter more than the consumption of a three-cylinder turbo gasoline. . During daily test drives, it also fluctuated within the long-awaited seven-liter range. This is most likely due to the fact that the motorized Stonic has a six-speed gearbox, which not only helps save fuel, but also reduces noise on highways.
So the Kia Stonic is not for those who buy crossovers for driving on dirt, but more for those who want their other qualities, such as a slightly better view, easier entry into the cabin, easier overcoming city road obstacles and, ultimately As a result, an attractive appearance, as the Stonic certainly attracts a lot of looks with its shape.

evaluation
The Kia and Stonica have remained very close to small city limousines, so it will especially appeal to those who do not think they will actually drive it off-road.
