Short test: Nissan Pathfinder 2.5 dCi SE IT Pack

According to the technical data, it has a length of 4,8 meters, a width of 1,85 meters and a height of 1,78 meters. So if you like big ones, Pathfinder is the one for you. Boot space is even more impressive: with seven seats, it's 190 liters, and with the rear seats folded down and the bench in the second row, you get a really impressive 2.090 liters. That's what the theory says.

However, the practice was different. One late evening, it all started with a phone conversation in which the boss asked for a favor. "You, can we swap cars?" - his request was that he could not sit in the Pathfinder. "What did you say, but can you repeat it?" was my incredulous reply. Since the replacement suited me, and the boss, in principle, never refuses a request, we soon got together and exchanged Nissan for a hybrid Peugeot. His problem was that he had difficulty turning the steering wheel due to his height, as he was still sliding on his hips despite his highest position. The Pathfinder is indeed cramped in terms of exterior dimensions on the inside, but still more than roomy enough for mid-sized riders.

The problem is, of course, in the higher position behind the steering wheel and especially in the steering wheel, which is adjustable only in height, but not in length. There were no problems with my 180 inches.

Then I started to enjoy a worker who wants to be a gentleman. Under the workers, of course, we would include four-wheel drive with a gearbox and the size (especially) of the trunk, but, of course, one should not neglect the high height and impressive entry angles (30 degrees) and distance angles. (26 degrees). They say it can dive up to 45 centimeters into a deep puddle and that it allows a maximum slope of 39 degrees and a maximum side slope of 49 degrees. Believe me, we have not tried this, because we still have common sense. A 2,5-liter turbodiesel, which is louder and shakes off-road, and a stripped-down six-speed manual transmission will come in handy. While we can only guess that there is more than enough torque to tow a trailer and a fully loaded trunk, we can confirm first-hand that highway driving is also a pleasure. Yes, quiet enough too!

Does he want to be polite too? Of course. This is mainly due to the rich equipment, from the rear-view camera to the cruise control, the hands-free system, navigation to the heated front seats and the touchscreen. Inside, despite the three closed drawers, we only missed a few storage areas and especially the new meter graphics that have been known for years. We are slowly awaiting the new Pathfinder, so the price shown in the datasheet is for guidance only. Do not betray me, but according to my information, you can issue a specific discount.

In the end, I was very grateful to the boss for changing the transport. The Pathfinder may have known each other for years, but with a modern engine (hmm, slightly higher fuel consumption) and rich equipment, this is a very enjoyable car. Unless, of course, you want and need such a massive SUV.

evaluation

  • You can accuse me of masculine courage, but such a machine befits a real man. You could easily drive it with your wife or daughter, but behind the wheel I see more of a forester or farmer who needs a slightly better car. Reliable first of all!
