Short test: Opel Astra 1.6 CDTi (100 kW) Active
It was decent at first in the big, heavy Zafira with 5,5 liters on our standard lap, but when the driver wasn't seriously careful, it grew - the test was about seven liters, which is still within acceptable limits. This was followed by the more compact and lighter Meriva, whose standard consumption was even higher than that of the Zafira - as much as 5,9 liters, and the test more moderate (but not outstanding) 6,6 liters. Now the 1,6-liter four-cylinder engine, capable of developing 136 “horses”, has received a third option, this time in the five-door Astra.
Result: cheaper but still not great 5,2 liters on a normal lap. By comparison, the 150-horsepower Seat Leon consumed three deciliters less, the two-liter Insignia seven deciliters less, the Kia Cee'd a liter less, and even the much more powerful Golf GTD was three deciliters more economical. It's a pity, because the engine is quiet and quite smooth, and at a moderate driving speed it does not deviate from the average even in terms of consumption: the test stopped just above six liters. Of course, it's worth mentioning that the Astra is not in the light category and that it's not just the engine that's to blame for the results on a normal lap - it has to travel almost a ton and a half of the car. but the numbers are lower.
However, the Astra is a motorized car that is, if you like, one of the fastest in daily driving, and at the same time the engine is quite flexible, and too lazy to shift gears does not mean asthma attacks accompanied by a shaking wet dog. That the time is approaching when the Astra will have fun is evidenced by its interior: there are still too many buttons on the center console, the screen between the instruments has an old-fashioned low resolution and is not painted.
It is known that this Astro and its systems were developed shortly before the boom in connectivity and color touchscreens. Active equipment includes dual-zone automatic air conditioning, rain sensor and automatic lighting, cruise control and 17-inch wheels. To the 20 XNUMX, which is the base price of such an Astra, we have to add a nice set of accessories that the test engine managed to overcome: bi-xenon active headlights, blind spot warning, more comfortable seats, parking system, navigation ...
A good 24 thousand will be considered as is. A lot of? Yes, but, fortunately, the list price is not final - you can count on at least a three thousandth discount. Then it's much more acceptable.

evaluation
Even with the new 1,6-liter turbo diesel, the Astra remains an acceptable choice that has been around for years. The engine is not the most economical, but it is compensated by noise insulation and low vibrations.
