Short test: Toyota Hilux Executive Invincible
If you want more than just a Hilux, but a piece as durable and masculine as the test one, you will need to check out the Invincible package in the accessories list. It has a lot more off-road tires (BF Goodrich All Terrain T / A), as well as some trim, protection and graphics that some may or may not like. He doesn't say anything, because apart from the tires, the essence of Hilux is hidden under the skin anyway.
The combination of a 2,4-liter four-cylinder turbo diesel and an automatic transmission proves more off-road and less (due to mass and air resistance) on the highway. Even on twisty pavement, this Hilux is not quite home: while dry it still works, and on wet roads the otherwise characterful tires lose traction very quickly, especially at the rear. If you love and know how to ride with a sliding rear end, you will love this Hilux. We only drove it a few times on winding mountain roads with only rear-wheel drive in the snow, and it turned out that the tires were not quite a piece of snow, and when there was a lot of snow under them and the four-wheel drive or even with the gearbox engaged, the Hilux really became invincible. Thirty or forty inches of freshness on the ground, or knee-deep in mud? Just in time for Hilux to show what he knows. A few inches fresh on a liquid surface? Lots of opportunities to have fun and slide your ass from bend to bend.
Yes, we must admit, we had fun. So much so that we forgot about the Hilux's shortcomings on the tarmac, its (despite the leather on the seats, which is part of the Executive's equipment) a rather plastic working interior and the fact that it is too large for urban use. Who cares …
