Easily recharge your electric car outside by a lamppost

Easily charge your electric car at the terminal just below the street light: this is an innovative idea proposed by Bouygues Énergie & Services to meet the energy needs of this type of vehicle. The initiative appears to be a practical solution to be taken in order to remove the main obstacle to the growth of this type of car - the lack of charging stations in the city.

Brilliant idea, economical and practical

He was the first to think about it, which is a good idea. To meet the energy needs of electric vehicles and to simplify their daily use, Bouygues Énergie & Services proposes to install electric charging stations next to street lights. This ingenious French innovation could help remove a major obstacle to the growth of this type of vehicle: the lack of charging stations. Connected directly to the public lighting network, charging stations can equip a city center at a relatively low cost.

Indeed, unlike new installations requiring trenching, these poles use the existing lighting network. It should also be noted that these stations can provide additional recharging with a capacity of 3,7 kV. Thus, a car parked and charged for two hours can restore approximately 50 kilometers of range. Thus, it is a smarter option for expanding the urban charging network.

First test at La Roche-sur-Yon

Three test terminals were installed in La Roche-sur-Yon, right at the foot of the three existing lampposts installed in the city center. In these first three parking spaces equipped by Bouygues Énergie & Services, bicycles and electric vehicles can now arrive and regain their autonomy a little. After this first experience, it will be necessary to analyze the impact of charging on the grid using Enedis' Linky smart meters. A study that seems important given that these devices should share their energy with city lighting, but not punish it.

The offer will be promoted and distributed throughout France by Bouygues Énergies & Services if the test is approved within 6 months.
