Short test: Toyota Yaris 1.5 HSD E-CVT Bitone Blue

When we think of Toyota and its hybrid vehicles, the first thing that comes to mind is the Prius. But for a long time, this was not the only thing, as Toyota successfully extended the hybrid drive to other, completely conventional models. For several years now, among them has been a representative of the small city cars Yaris, which was updated in the spring - of course, in all engine versions.

The update was mainly reflected in the front and rear, where the LED daytime running lights stand out, the designers also paid some attention to the sides, but otherwise the Toyota Yaris remained a popular car, which stands out mainly in the blue and black combination as it is intended for a test car. There are also some changes to the interior, where the color screen of the trip computer comes to the fore, and it is worth noting that with the new generation Yaris it is also equipped with an effective suite of Toyota Safety Sense safety accessories.

The Yaris tested was a hybrid, with which this model is still one of the rarest small cars with this type of drive. The powertrain isn't the most up-to-date as it's basically - as before the update - a previous-generation Toyota Prius hybrid drive, of course in a form adapted to a small car. It consists of a 1,5-liter gasoline engine and an electric motor, which together develop a system power of exactly 100 "horsepower". The hybrid Yaris is enough to handle all driving duties reliably, but is especially at home in urban environments, where it becomes obvious that you can make many trips - up to 50 kilometers per hour - completely on electricity. This is definitely true for places where you don't want to disturb the neighborhood with gasoline engine noise. However, to drive quietly, you need to very carefully press the accelerator pedal, otherwise the gasoline engine will also start quickly.

Fuel consumption can also be beneficial. Toyota claims it can go down to 3,3 liters per 100 kilometers, but we still hit a solid 3,9 liters on a regular lap and 5,7 liters per 100 kilometers in tests. It's worth mentioning that most of the journeys were made in relative order, which means the petrol engine was running all the time, which of course deviates from judicious use of the Yaris hybrid primarily as a city car.

The interior of the car is also suitable for an urban environment, in which there is enough comfortable space for four to five passengers and the "consequences" of their purchases, but, nevertheless, the well-being of all is guaranteed only over short distances. However, this also applies to the Yarise with internal combustion engines, and, of course, all other small cars.
