Lada Vesta SV Cross is not only another novelty of the Togliatti automobile plant, which appeared two years after the start of sales of the Vesta family, but also an attempt to gain a foothold in a market segment previously unknown for the domestic auto giant. The SV Cross off-road wagon is built on the basis of the conventional West SV wagon, with both models appearing at the same time. At the moment, Vesta SV Cross is the most expensive car in the AvtoVAZ model line.

If sedans Vesta appeared on the streets of Russian cities in the fall of 2015, then the release of another version of the Vesta model for domestic buyers had to wait for 2 whole years. The refusal to release the West hatchback in 2016 led to the fact that the station wagon remained the only possible new body option for the family. But this was offset by the fact that buyers can choose from two versions of the station wagon: the regular SV and the SV Cross station wagon.

The timing of the start of production of SV Cross was repeatedly postponed until the model finally entered the conveyor on September 11, 2017. However, a new car became available for purchase a little later: The official date of the start of sales of Lada Vesta SV Cross is October 25, 2017, although the most impatient buyers could pre-order the model back in August.

Lada Vesta SV Cross is not only a natural continuation of the development of the Vesta family, but also an attempt to correct minor flaws and childhood diseases of the parent sedan. Many innovations that appeared on the off-road wagon will subsequently migrate to the usual Vesta. So, for the first time, it was on the SV and SV Cross models that appeared:
  • the fuel filler flap, which can be opened by pressing, and not with the old-fashioned eyelet, as on the sedan;
  • trunk release button located under the license plate strip;
  • separate button for heating the windshield;
  • new sound design for turn signals and alarm activation.

The overboard air temperature sensor was also moved - due to the fact that on the sedan it was located in a closed area, it previously gave incorrect readings. All these small innovations, which first appeared on station wagons, will later be implemented on the sedans of the family.

However, the main innovations of SV Cross, of course, are associated with a different body type and a modification designed to slightly increase the off-road characteristics of the model. Vesta SV Cross is equipped with new rear suspension springs and other shock absorbers, which not only made it possible to increase the ground clearance to an impressive 20,3 cm, but also helped to maintain decent handling, coupled with the reliability of the suspension. Now the rear suspension of the Cross practically does not break through even on very impressive potholes. The technical innovations are supplemented by disc rear brakes, which first appeared on domestic cars. Also, only 17-inch wheels are installed on the Cross, which not only improved cross-country ability, but also gave the car an external solidity.

Naturally, all this did not make SV Cross an SUV - the lack of all-wheel drive hints that the natural habitat of the car is asphalt roads. However, leaving the highway will no longer lead to a disaster - light off-road conditions are completely overcome thanks to low-profile tires on R17 disks and high ground clearance.

You can distinguish the SV Cross variation from an ordinary station wagon by two-tone bumpers and black plastic linings on the sidewalls and wheel arches, hinting at some of the off-road capabilities of the car. Also, the Cross is distinguished by the presence of decorative twin tailpipes of the exhaust system, roof rails and spoilers, which gives the SV Cross an impetuous sporty look. The creator of the SV Cross design is the notorious Steve Martin, who also owns the appearance of such a popular station wagon as the Volvo V60.

A buyer who is familiar with the West family in a sedan will find small but pleasant changes in the SV Cross cabin. The space above the heads of the rear passengers has increased by 2,5 cm, and a rear armrest with cup holders has also been introduced. An orange edging appeared around the instruments on the front panel, and Vesta SV Cross also boasts orange and black inserts on the seats, front panel and door handles.

Like the Vesta sedan, the Lada Vesta SV cross is based on the Lada B platform, which originates from the unrealized 2007 Lada C project. The 1,8 engine allows you to accelerate to 100 km / h in 11,2 seconds, the maximum speed is 180 km / h, this engine consumes 7,9 liters of fuel in the combined cycle.

The car is equipped with two types of transmission:

  • 5-speed mechanics matching both engines;
  • 5-speed robot, which is only installed on the version with a 1,8 liter engine.

The front suspension of the car is completely independent of the MacPherson type, the rear is semi-independent. One of the main differences between Vesta SV Cross is R17 rims, while sedan and simple station wagon are satisfied with R15 or R16 discs by default. The spare wheel of Vesta Cross is intended for temporary use and has a dimension of R15.
