Lamborghini Urus will be the fastest and most powerful SUV in the world

The first SUV to bear the Lamborghini badge is being tested at the Nürburgring. Many vehicles are currently being tested in the "Green Hell", which can be seen in showrooms in the next few months. Lamborghini Urus was in this group.

According to the manufacturer, at the time of the start of sales (estimated to be the fastest in the second half of 2018), the Urus should become the fastest and most powerful production SUV in the world. world. With the Urus facing off against the Tesla Model X, which can hit 100 km/h in 3,1 seconds, in the overclocking competition, the Italian engineers have a lot of work to do.

What do we already know about Urus? The floor slab will be shared with the Audi Q7, Bentley Bentayga and the upcoming new 2018 Porsche Cayenne. The silhouette of the car, taking into account both the concept and photos of the test car from the track, will match the lines of the body. Aventador or Huracan models and - although it was probably not easy - Lamborghini design qualities are neatly combined with the appearance of an SUV.

The owners of the Italian brand (let us recall that it is in the hands of the VAG concern) are sharpening their teeth for success, similar to that which the Cayenne guaranteed the Porsche brand. The impressive results of last year's sales (about 3500 units were sold) can be doubled thanks to the Urus model. The main market for the Lamborghini SUV is likely to be the United States, where the current generation Cayenne is Porsche's best-selling model.

The fashion for fast SUVs has been going on for some time. These cars have as many opponents as followers. The concept of an off-road passenger car with high ground clearance, all-wheel drive and a suspension that copes with specific bumps, driven by a 6-horsepower engine with huge torque? This is still not enough. Such cars are equipped with stiff sports springs, launch control, overload sensors, special clocks that measure lap times along the track, and special programs that change driving performance to the maximum track type. Does anyone take their BMW X7 M to the race track? Is the Audi SQXNUMX used for racing other than under the headlights? Will the Lamborghini Urus finally become a bloodthirsty corner-eater, not unlike the brand's classic racing models? It is better not to look for answers to these questions, and practice shows that such cars are popular, they sell better every year, and the model ranges of many brands, especially in the Premium segment, are expanding due to more sporty models.

Let's think for a moment, why do customers choose heavy-duty SUVs over a comfortable and powerful limousine? The SUV is synonymous with comfort - a more upright driving position, easier seating for driver and passengers, easier lowering of the vehicle, a wider field of vision and the ability to react faster to traffic situations, all-wheel drive to help overcome steep slopes in ski resorts, the ability to drive without stress on the highest Polish curbs in the world, trunks larger than those of classic sedans (although this is not a rule). The disadvantages of this type of body are also easy to identify - a longer braking distance due to the greater mass of the car, greater fuel consumption than lower and lighter cars, longer warm-up and cool-down times, difficulties in finding a parking space due to the large size of the car, body lean when cornering due to higher center of gravity, higher purchase cost of similar versions compared to similar sedan or station wagon models. But what if the disadvantages of SUVs are minimized, and the advantages are sharpened, and in addition, equipped with parameters straight from sports cars? The market immediately picked up on this idea, and today every major brand has an SUV in its offer, and this SUV is available in a sports or supersport version.

Are such models the prerogative of only expensive and luxurious brands? Not necessary! There are many examples: Nissan Juke Nismo, Subaru Forester XT, sports versions of Seat Ateca (Cupra) and Ford Kuga (ST) are also planned.

In Premium brands, such cars are almost standard:

– BMW X5 and X6 in M version

– Mercedes-Benz GLA, GLC, GLE, GLS and G-Class in AMG versions

— Audi SQ3, SQ5 and SQ7

- Jaguar F-Pace S with all-wheel drive

- Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8

– Maserati Levante S

– Porsche Cayenne Turbo S and Macan Turbo with Performance package

— Tesla H R100 D

— Range Rover Sport SVR

Competition for Lamborghini Urus? It is difficult to talk about competition, we can only mention cars that will be close in price to the new Italian SUV. They are: the Range Rover SVAutobiography, the Bentley Bentayga, or the first Rolls-Royce SUV, which will likely be called the Cullinan and, like the Urus, is now being tested. True, not on the track, but on the most difficult roads in the world, but this is what Super Premium SUVs can offer - there is no competition, there are just alternatives.
