Low beam lamps on Ford Focus 2

Any light bulb burns out sooner or later, but most often the dipped beam burns out, since they are often used as DRLs and use out their resource even during the day. Today we will not go to the service station, but we will try to replace the Ford Focus 2 low beam bulb on our own.

What are

The release of the second generation Ford Focus began in 2004 and continued until 2011, and in 2008 a fairly deep restyling was carried out.

As you can see in the photo above, the headlights of the car have also undergone changes - they got a different, more aggressive shape. But the refinement also affected the design of some internal components of the lamps. So, if before restyling the cover was common for the far and near modules, then after restyling the modules received separate hatches, each with its own trunk.

However, the changes did not affect the light sources. In both cases, H1 and H7 lamps are used for high and low beams, respectively. Both are halogen and have a power of 55 watts.

Top models rating

It's hard to categorize the best Ford Focus 2 low beam headlights as some last longer, some shine brighter and some are good value for money. Therefore, I decided to first classify the dipped beam according to certain criteria, and then classify them. Let's order like this:

  1. standard halogen.
  2. Long service life.
  3. Increased luminous flux.
  4. With xenon effect.

And now we will analyze the devices by classification.

Replacement process

We figured out the lamps and headlights, it's time to decide how to change the burned-out "near" lamps on a Ford. To do this, on all modifications of the Ford Focus 2, you need to remove the headlight. Of the tools and fixtures we need:

  • long flat screwdriver;
  • Torx 30 wrench (if possible);
  • clean gloves;
  • headlight bulb replacement.

We unscrew the fixing screw, there is only one. The head of the screw has a combination slot, so you can use a wrench or screwdriver to remove it.

From below, the flashlight is fastened with latches that can be pulled out with the same screwdriver. For clarity, I will show them on an already decommissioned headlight.

We shake the headlight and push it forward along the car, not forgetting that the lamp is still hanging on the wires.

Disconnect the power supply

We extend the headlight as far as the wires allow, tilt it, reach for the power supply and, pressing the latch, pull it out of the socket. Now the lantern can be placed on the workbench, it is much more convenient to work.

In a note. In all modifications of the Ford Focus 2, the length of the wires is sufficient to replace the low beam directly on the car. Therefore, the block cannot be deleted. Not very convenient, but quite real.

Behind the headlight, we see a large plastic cover that is held on by four latches. For clarity, I will show them on the headlight with the cover already removed (they are all installed at an angle, they are not visible).

We squeeze them and remove the cover. Before us are two bulbs, high and low beam, with power blocks placed in them. In the photo, the correct device is responsible for the zoom, I marked it with an arrow.

All these operations are carried out with a pre-styling headlight. And now let's move on to restyling. It is removed in the same way, only instead of one common hatch, as I said above, it has two. For the neighbor (oddly enough) the one that is located closest to the center of the car is responsible. Remove the rubber cover from the sunroof.

Before us is about the same picture - a "near" lantern with a power brick on it. The block is simply removed by pulling on it (similarly in dorestyling).

Under the block is a dipped beam bulb, pressed with a spring clip. We twist the bracket, recline it and take out the light bulb.

It's time to put on gloves, as the glass bulb of a halogen device cannot be touched with bare hands.

Important! If you touch the bulb glass with bare hands, be sure to wipe it with a clean cloth dampened with alcohol.

We put, take a new dipped beam bulb and install it in place of the burned out one. We fix it with a spring clamp and put the power supply on the contacts of the base. We remove the protective cover (put it in the trunk) and install the lamp on the Ford. To do this, first press it until the latches operate, then fix it with the upper screw.

Forgot to plug your flashlight into an outlet? It happens. We unscrew the screw, press the latches, take out the headlight, insert the block into the lamp socket. Install the lamp back into place. That's all, nothing complicated.

Typical malfunctions - where is the fuse

Changed the bulbs, but the low beam on your Ford still does not work? In most cases, this is due to the failure of the dipped-beam power fuse (at the moment the halogen burns, the current often increases). The fuse is located in the internal mounting block. The block itself can be found under the glove compartment (glove box). We bend down, turn the fixing screw (marked with an arrow in the photo below), and the block falls into our hands.

Remove the protective cover. If the car is pre-assembled (see above), then the mounting block will look like this:

Here, fuse No. 48 with a nominal value of 20 A is responsible for the dipped beam.

If we have a Ford Focus 2 after restyling, then the mounting block will be like this:

There are already 2 "close" fuses, separate for the left and right headlights. Insert #143 is responsible for the left, insert #142 for the right.
