Climbing a snowy or icy hill for many drivers is a test and stress. A potential threat in such a situation is not only weather conditions, but also the lack of skills and knowledge of the person driving the car.

Too slow

A common mistake drivers make is going uphill too slowly. This is understandable behavior, because in difficult conditions we instinctively take our foot off the gas pedal and try to perform all maneuvers more slowly. If the vehicle is stopped on an icy slope due to low speed, it will be difficult to start again and there is a risk that the vehicle will start.

The wheel is turning

If the wheels start spinning in place, take your foot off the gas pedal. When it doesn't help, depress the clutch. The wheels must be pointed straight ahead, as turning the wheels further destabilizes the vehicle. If the wheels spin in place when pulling away, each addition of gas increases the effect of the slip. In such a situation, you have to stop the car and try to start moving again.

Above and below

At the top of the hill, take your foot off the gas and slow down with the gears. When descending, it is important to focus on one maneuver, i.e. do not brake on the turn, because then it is easy to lose traction, - Renault driving school instructors warn.
