Lidl offers fast and free charging stations in its store car parks.

After supermarkets in Switzerland and Germany, it is now Lidl supermarkets in the United Kingdom to welcome fast charging stations in their car parks. Very practical, these terminals are available to customers free of charge during opening hours.

The All Electrical Initiative

Killing two birds with one stone is the start of an initiative by the Lidl distribution network. With a new market share, Lidl has taken advantage of the ongoing renovation of its stores and installed charging stations for electric vehicles in its parking lots. In the spring of 2016, Lidl Switzerland openly launched its "revolution" by announcing an investment of 1,1 million euros to deploy several dozen terminals, as well as to install photovoltaic installations in the car parks of its supermarkets.

These installations are designed to cover all the energy needs of the network with severe discounts in the long term. This initiative was quickly followed by the German subsidiary, which also started installing 20 fast charging stations in car parks. These terminals are also powered by green electricity. In a few months, thanks to a partnership with UK charging operator Pod Point, the German subsidiary of the Lidl distribution network will also see some 40 charging stations in its car parks. France is just beginning to benefit from this service, including with Lidl stores in Ecuy in the Ayr region and Jeuxey stores in the Vosges.

A practical service that motorists will appreciate

The fast charging stations of the Lidl distribution network are completely free of charge. They are also readily available during supermarket opening hours without prior identification of customers. Terminals supplied by supplier ABB allow electric vehicles such as the BMW i3, Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, Volkswagen e-Golf and Nissan e-NV200 to regain up to 80% of their autonomy after only 30-40 minutes of connection. ... As standard, these charging stations are compatible with all models of electric vehicles that support fast charging.
