So much sun wasted

The World Energy Council estimates that global energy demand in 2020 will be around 14 Gtoe, or 588 trillion joules. Approximately 89 petawatts of solar energy reach the Earth's surface, so we receive almost three quadrillion joules from the Sun every year. The accounts show that the total supply of energy from the Sun today is nearly five thousand times greater than humanity's projected needs for 2020.

Easy to calculate. This is more difficult to use. Scientists are still working on improving the efficiency of photovoltaic cells. Among those available on the market today, it usually does not exceed ... 10 percent of the use of available solar energy. The energy consumption of today's single-crystal silicon solar cells is extremely expensive - by some estimates, about ten times more expensive than coal.
