Lotus Type 132: electric SUV debuts March 29

We are just minutes away from Lotus' next electric crossover, the Type 132, a vehicle with cutting-edge design and exceptional power. The brand has shared a teaser of what the Type 132 will be like and confirmed the debut of the electric car on March 29th.

Lotus continues to release teasers of its upcoming all-electric SUV dubbed the Lotus. The latest videos and images show the crossover's headlights and taillights, wheels, dashboard and other details, and now we also know that it will debut on March 29th.

Details on Lotus' next electric SUV

From what we can see, the crossover looks angular and low with some cool details. The wheels are wrapped in carbon fiber and hide large brakes. In keeping with current design trends, it will feature thin LED strips front and rear, although we may also see more elaborate headlight housings up front.

The cabin has a slim digital instrument cluster with an ambient light strip running through the dash, and a rectangular steering wheel with drive mode buttons and paddle shifters for adjustable brake regeneration.

SUV up to 1,000 horsepower

We know from previous teasers that the Type 132 will feature active aerodynamic elements and retractable lidar sensors for driver assistance systems. It will be based on Lotus' modular electric vehicle architecture, which will also underpin future sports cars as a successor to the Esprit.

Dealer preview reports in China indicate that the Type 132 has some really impressive performance. Battery packs up to 120 kilowatt hours will reportedly be offered, with the Type 132 apparently rated up to 1,000 horsepower and using 800 volt technology.

When will the Lotus Type 132 go on sale?

The Type 132 is due to go on sale in the US at the end of 2022 after a March 29 debut. A four-door coupe will arrive in 2023, followed by a second, smaller electric crossover in 2025.
