Turbine oil TP-30 is produced in accordance with the technical requirements of GOST 9972-74, and belongs to the category of petroleum products that contain anti-wear additives. This is due to the operating conditions of this oil, which is used to lubricate the rubbing units of large turbines - bearings, gearboxes, etc.
The composition and features of the action of the components
GOST 9272-74 defines the following set of additives and additives for base oil:
- antioxidants;
- demulsifiers;
- anti-foam components;
- wear reducing additives.
The combination of such substances improves the operation of friction units and contributes to the stabilization of the values of the increased pressure of the external environment on the contact surfaces of steel parts of turbines and similar power equipment. In accordance with the international requirements of ISO 8068, the percentage of additives that slow down the impact of small mechanical particles on operating parts and assemblies has been increased, which favorably distinguishes the performance of TP-30 turbine oil from related products, for example, TP-22s oil.
A feature of the composition of this oil product is also considered to be the increased stability of its density, which depends little on external pressure and temperature. This property is used to use TP-30 turbine oil as a hydraulic organic medium that stabilizes pressure and is used as a means of controlling individual turbine units.

This indicator is usually set at room temperature according to the method of GOST 3900-85. The standard density value should be 895-0,5 kg / m3.
A slightly reduced (in comparison with similar oils of this series) density is explained by the following. During long-term operation, turbine oils are gradually contaminated with oxidation products, which can form in the form of chemical compounds and mechanical sediment. But resistance to oxidative reactions is ensured by the presence of the necessary antioxidants, while fine particles are removed from the contact zones only due to the actual consumption of circulating oil. With a decrease in density, the effect of the removal of such particles from the friction zones increases, and then their movement is determined by the operation of the oil purification system and the available filters. Thus, oil of relatively low density reduces energy consumption for the evacuation of wear products.
Other performance indicators of turbine oil TP-30 are within the following limits:
- Kinematic viscosity, mm2/ s: 41,4… 50,6.
- Viscosity index, not lower: 95.
- Acid number in terms of KOH: 0,5.
- flash point outdoors, °C, not less: 190.
- Thickening temperature, °C, not higher: -10.
- The highest sulfur content, %: 0,5.
The standard does not allow traces of water and phenolic compounds in the oil, which accelerate the formation of varnishes and sludge.
Application
Turbine oil TP-30 is characterized by increased chemical inertness: it slows down oxidative reactions that can occur at elevated temperatures and does not absorb foreign products of such reactions. Therefore, this oil product is advisable to use in case of danger of stratification of additives. Slowing down such processes contributes to longer oil change periods, which increases the efficiency of turbines. The effectiveness of the described product is especially noticeable for turbines of medium and high power. Experimental studies have also established that TP-30 oil accelerates the formation of protective films on the surfaces of plain bearings that separate the friction surfaces.
