In Stuttgart on June 17 this year, the official announcement of the new Mercedes GLC took place. The novelty is a mid-size crossover from the German automaker that aims to spot the GLK SUV. The model code designation has changed in accordance with the new rules for marking the company's models.
Design
The design of the Mercedes GLC 2016 model year, in relation to its predecessor, has radically changed. Instead of some angularity, smooth contours appeared on the body, the roof became sloping, the dimensions of the side windows, which are located on the rear pillars, have seriously increased. In addition, the novelty received a different grille and head light in the current corporate design. And looking at the rear horizontal optics immediately recalls the older GLE coupe.
In terms of the latest Mercedes GLK news, it is made in the style of the C-class with nozzles in the center of the console, and a multimedia system with a large display above it. In general, the interior of the crossover is almost completely copied from the representatives of the C-class, with the exception of some details. In particular, a slightly different steering column, there is no clock on the console, you can change the angle of inclination of the backs of the rear seats.
Technical specifications
The basis for the novelty was the MRA platform, on which the C-class is built. The weight of the crossover has decreased by 80 kg due to the use of a lighter body made of high strength steels and aluminum. Now it is 1735-2025 kg, depending on the modification. In addition, the engineers managed to reduce the aerodynamic index to 0.31, while the GLK has it equal to 0.34.
In terms of dimensions, the Mercedes GLC added in almost all positions - 4656 * 1890 * 1639 mm (plus 120, 50 and 9 mm), the wheelbase became 2 mm (plus 873 mm). The size of the luggage compartment has also grown to 118 liters (580 liters with the rear seats folded down). The only thing that has been reduced is the clearance, up to 1 from 600 mm.
As for the line of engines, at first, the Mercedes GLC boasts four options. In the basic version, the car is equipped with a 2.1-liter diesel engine in two versions: 170 hp, 400 Nm (220d) and 204 hp, 500 Nm (250d). On the 250 4Matic version, a 2-liter petrol turbo four (211 hp, 350 Nm) is installed. A pair of all three motors is a 9-level 9G-Tronic automatic transmission with two drive axles.

A hybrid version of the Mercedes GLC 350e 4Matic is also available. In addition to the complete gasoline engine, it has an electric motor for 116 "horses" and a torque of 340 Nm. A set of lithium-ion batteries with a total capacity of 8.7 kWh is responsible for powering the electric motor. Both units are aggregated by a 7-band automatic 7G-Tronic Plus. Thanks to electric traction, the crossover will be able to drive 34 km at a speed of no more than 140 km / h.
A little later, the Mercedes GLC engine family will be supplemented by another representative. It is expected to be a 3.0-liter turbocharged unit with 6 cylinders and 333 "horses" of power.

Despite the fact that the world presentation of the Mercedes-Benz GLK 2 is scheduled for September during the Frankfurt auto show, sales of the model on the European market began on July 1. For a fee, the Mercedes GLC can be equipped with many additional options, for example, a sports or off-road package (AMG or Off-Road Engineering, respectively), automatic parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, an automatic braking module that is able to recognize pedestrians, a video camera with a circular overview and other buns.
