Mercedes launches its own domestic batteries to compete with Tesla

Tesla will not remain the domestic battery monopoly for long (see PowerWall's announcement here). Mercedes is also promising to launch its home batteries this fall.

Mercedes launches its own domestic batteries

A few weeks ago, Tesla unveiled its new design called the Powerwall, a household battery designed to optimize people's power consumption. The "power wall" then allows electricity to be stored - charging the battery - when the price of energy is at its lowest, and then to use the current thus obtained when the price of energy rises. Advertised today as the only technology of its kind, Powerwall is unlikely to monopolize the public's attention for long. In fact, Mercedes is developing its own version of the domestic battery in its laboratories. The firm is even offering households, especially German ones, to pre-order now for delivery by September 2015.

Strong competition announced in Germany

Mercedes household batteries are manufactured by Accumotive, another company in the Daimler group. The zodiac sign is presented in modular form: each household can then choose their battery capacity, up to a ceiling of 20 kWh for eight 2,5 kWh modules. Nevertheless, Mercedes' offer seems to be much lower than Tesla's promises, which offers to collect up to 9 10 kWh modules in the house. The German firm also remains cautious about the price of its package, unlike the American manufacturer, which is announcing a price of $ 3 for a 500 kWh module. However, Mercedes has the advantage of signing a partnership with EnBW to distribute its domestically produced batteries in Germany.
