Mercedes-Benz ML 320 CDI 4Matic

165 kilowatts or 224 “horsepower” is not much to move a car weighing more than two tons (which is not an aerodynamic gem), but in practice it turns out that the ML is quite survivable, and if you do not set speed records on the highway, even economically.

Well, at a consumption of about 13 liters, many would be horrified, but it is important to know that our kilometers are either urban or fast. With moderate, relative driving, consumption can be reduced by about two liters. And the gearbox? Sometimes you need to make sure that the driver notices the gear change at all, but there are times when he knocks too hard. But in general, it deserves a very positive assessment, especially since the gear ratios are designed ideally.

Otherwise: this is what ML drivers of this type have known since this transmission combination became available. The ML 320 CDI is not the freshest, having been rejuvenated last year and then fitted with a new nose with masked horizontal slats, new headlights, much clearer rear-view mirrors (this is how the city uses the otherwise big ML with the parking system - but completely undemanding) , a new rear bumper, slightly modified seats (and still sits great) and a few other little things.

There's a lot of space in the front, a large drawer tucked under the armrest, and it's interesting that Mercedes designers didn't take advantage of the space they gained by moving the gear lever next to the steering wheel to have more room for small items. ...

There are still holes in the side handles, so everything that is not in both rooms, intended for storing cans and bottles of drinks, sooner or later ends up on the floor of the car. It is a pity for a missed opportunity, we could change this little thing during the renovation. The materials used are of good quality and once the driver gets used to the typical Mercedes ergonomics with just one lever on the steering wheel, the driving feel is excellent.

The same goes for the well-being of the passengers, and since the trunk already has a good 550 liters of volume, of course it is immediately clear that such an ML is a very good family car. The only problem is that most families will only be able to see it from a distance. 77k for a test car (of course, rich equipment, including air suspension should be noted) is a lot of money and even the most basic, so the motorized ML is not cheap: 60k.

But this, after all, has more to do with the section of the economy than technology. Despite such prices, ML sells well everywhere (more precisely: it sold before the recession), which is a sign that it is good enough to justify the price.

evaluation

  • The 320 CDI is the ML's most common engine and it must be admitted that the combination of a six-cylinder turbodiesel and a seven-speed automatic transmission is excellent.
