MG ZS EV: Nayland review [video]. Big and cheap for an electric car – ideal for Poles?

Bjorn Nyland had the opportunity to experience the Chinese MG ZS EV, which caused a bit of a stir in the UK three months ago and is now slowly making its way into mainland Europe. The car performed well in relation to the purchase price, especially considering that the price of the MG ZS EV should be lower than the Renault Zoe (!).

Before we get to Nyland's opinion, let's make a quick introduction: this is a C-SUV, a cross between a compact crossover and a hatchback. Bateria MG ZS EV ma Power 44,5 kWh and according to the manufacturer it allows you to beat 262 km WLTPwhat is it supposed to mean real flight range in mixed mode at the level of 220-230 kilometers - so slightly worse than in the case of Nissan Leaf II (243 km) or Kia e-Niro 39 kWh (240-250 km).

These calculations are more or less consistent with what the meters for a fully charged car show. The car showed a range of 257 km:

The MG ZS EV (pronounced em-ji zet-es i-wi) is made by China's SAIC and has been on sale in the UK since July, as we mentioned. During the official launch in the UK, the manufacturer mentioned the expansion of the offer to mainland Europe, in particular the Netherlands and Norway - and, apparently, this process has only just begun, since Nyland tested a left-hand drive car in Belgium... According to TV2.no, the manufacturer's Norwegian website should be launched at the turn of September and October (source).

The car was created on the basis of a universal platform, on which an internal combustion version is also built. Therefore, there is a lot of unused space under the hood at the front:

The solutions used in the interior (headlight leveling, etc.) and the materials used suggest that we are dealing with a car in which the costs were approached very carefully. Nyland found out that the MG ZS EV is expected to be cheaper than the Renault Zoe, which means that the price of MG ZS EV in Poland should be below 133 PLN. – the cheapest Renault Zoe is very expensive – and certainly less than PLN 150 (the approximate cost of buying more equipped versions of the Zoe).

Let's add that the Renault Zoe is a much smaller car because it belongs to the B segment:

There was no automatic air conditioning in the car, the car did not display any information about the temperature, it was only possible to increase and decrease the cooling or heating of the cabin. This is the cost of cutting costs ...:

Despite the durable plastic, the seats look pretty good and hold the rider's body in place, according to Nyland. There's plenty of legroom in the back seat, and the seat sits 33 centimeters off the floor—not too high, but tolerable for an electrician. On the contrary, the stock in place seems to be limited. People sitting on their side about 180 centimeters tall can beat their heads on the roof:

The boot space of the MG ZS EV is quite large, estimated at over 400 liters. The YouTuber measured 78 cm deep, 88 cm wide (including wheel arch space), and 74 cm high to the roof, that's 508 liters without wheel space. floor:

The gap between the battery and the ground is 15 centimeters, which means that the driver of the car should not rush through speed bumps:

MG ZS EV: performance, power, power consumption, driving experience

The car is comfortable enough behind the wheel, there are driver support systems. His the engine has a power of 105 kW (143 hp) i torque 353 Nmthat's why the car won't offer us sporty performance. The volume in the cabin is acceptable, although the sound of the engine penetrates inside, which is especially audible during sharp acceleration and braking with regenerative energy.

By the way, about recuperation: the car has three stages of regeneration plus the fourth, the most powerful, activated by pressing the brake pedal.

The energy consumption is also quite reasonable: an average of 97 km / h after 55 kilometers. energy consumption was 20,7 kWh / 100 km. (207 Wh / km), which means that the car must travel about 200 kilometers without recharging.

Having covered 139 kilometers trying to maintain a speed of 125 km / h (average: 104 km / h) consumption increased to 23 kWh / 100 km (230 Wh / km)... The battery has dropped to 25 percent, which means at this speed on the highway, the car will cover about 185 kilometers. on one charge. So in real terms it will be 140 kilometers and a frantic search for a charging point:

The Hyundai Kona Electric and Kia e-Niro use less energy while driving, Nyland said. This is confirmed by independent tests:

After connecting Ionit to the charger, the car started up. energy replenishment with a capacity of 58 kW. At 36 percent charge, power dropped to 54 kW, at 58 percent, to 40 kW. At the charging station, the car performed much better than the Nissan Leaf, even if, after exceeding 80 percent of the battery capacity, it reduced the charging power from 32 to a few kilowatts:

General Nyland's opinion on the MG ZS EV? It is worth buying if you are looking for an economical vehicle that offers a lot of space, reasonably selected options at a good price. The editors of www.elektrowoz.pl would add that Before buying, you should familiarize yourself with the crash tests of the car and listen to its buyers. - because, for example, the Chinese do not really trust their own manufacturers (but SAIC is not among them):

Worth Watching:

Editor's note www.elektrowoz.pl: Bjorn Nyland has a Patreon account (HERE) and we think it is worth supporting him with a small donation. The Norwegian is distinguished by a truly journalistic approach and reliability, he amazes us by the fact that he prefers to inspect the car, and not, for example, have dinner (we have the same;). In our opinion, this a very positive change compared to all satisfied car media representatives.
