Mitsubishi ASX driver test

ASX stands for active sports crossover, and Mitsubishi unveiled it as a study on the cX at last year's Frankfurt Motor Show. In Japan, it has been known as RVR since February this year. It is unknown why the names are different, or why Mitsubishi chose the abbreviation rather than the name that all of their other models have.

The ASX is made in Mitsubishi style, albeit on the same platform as the Outlander, but with much nicer shapes. Its smaller dimensions, especially the length, are immediately pleasing. Mitsubishi marketers say it is aimed primarily at customers who are otherwise drawn to mid-range vehicles, but also for those who choose between smaller minivans. Thus, it is a kind of crossover that must match modern taste, in which the car owner wants to have a suitable device for outdoor activities in everyday use.

The advantages of the ASX, compared to its sister Outlander, are mainly in the very updated technology. While it may be 300 kilograms lighter than the Outlander, the most important innovation is a new 1-liter turbodiesel engine that performs even better than the previous XNUMX-liter turbodiesel Mitsubishi installed on the Outlander but was bought from Volkswagen. ...

Another novelty is that the ASX will place much more emphasis on front-wheel drive versions, which will be responsible for the 1-liter petrol engine (based on the current 6-liter) and the 1-liter turbodiesel. After a while, this one will receive an even less powerful version (5 kW / 1 hp).

Mitsubishi also offers a technology innovation called Clear tech as standard for the ASX, with which they are trying to reduce CO2 emissions. It consists of an automatic engine shutdown and start (AS&G) system, electric power steering, a brake charging system and low friction tires.

The ASX has the exact same wheelbase as the Outlander, but is significantly longer. On the road, this is a secure position, which is quite surprising for a tall car, which is further emphasized in the all-wheel drive version. Despite the tires whose core characteristics are designed to be more economical to drive than anything else, they also satisfy driving comfort.
