Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV - how much does it cost per month and how much can you save on gasoline? [Reader Tomasz] • CARS

One of our readers, Mr. Tomasz, is the owner of the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV plug-in hybrid. After a year of use, he looked at his bills and calculated how much money was left in his wallet thanks to pure electric driving. It seems that month after month it saves several hundred zlotys.

According to Tomasz, in 2018 he decided to buy a used 2014 Outlander PHEV. At the time of purchase (30), the vehicle had a mileage of 2018 kilometers. The car cost 106 15 euros, which together with all expenses (excise tax, import) amounted to 68 XNUMX zlotys. For a similar price, you can buy a petrol version with an automatic transmission or just a plug-in hybrid. He relied on a hybrid.

In 1 year, the owner drove 22 kilometers, but initially did not use any tools to study the driving mode of the car. And only in September, he installed PHEV Watchdog and collected data about the car for 8 months. He passed during this time:

  • 9 km electric (electric vehicle)
  • A total of 11 843 km in all modes.

During this period:

  • consumed 2 kWh of energy,
  • 216 liters of gasoline burned out for (11 - 843) = 9 kilometers.

I charged at home at the G12as tariff, which I activated when I bought a car. With an electricity price of PLN 40 per kWh. the total cost of driving in electric mode was PLN 924., that is, PLN 9 per 100 km. On the other side in the case of fuel - PLN 51 per 100 km, total PLN 1..

Together 8 months of driving cost him about PLN 2.... If he wanted to cover the same distance he paid about 6 zlotys for gasoline. – savings amounted to about PLN 4 3,4, i.е. about PLN 10 for every XNUMX kilometers driven.

According to him, the calculations are somewhat simplified because:

  • part of the energy comes from the combustion of gasoline (an internal combustion engine as a power generator - the application considers that it operates in electric vehicle mode),
  • part of the energy was supplied at the night rate in the amount of PLN 20 per 1 kWh,
  • some of the energy came from free sources (72 Plugshare logins).

... but summing up the pros and cons, with a car the size of the Outlander PHEV, it is safe to assume that you will save several thousand PLN on gasoline per year.

It is interesting to note that his electricity bill has increased from the previous 120 PLN to 250 PLN. Thus, the car spent about PLN 130 per month. Today, you can buy 25 liters of gasoline or about 62 liters of liquefied gas for the same amount.
