Mitsubishi Lanser 2.0 DI-D Instyle

This has been the case with cars for a very long time: they have a “face” in the front, and we recognize them by it. Some faces are beautiful, others are less beautiful, others are uninteresting, and so on. Some are more fortunate, others less so. Some are more recognizable, others less so. The face of the new Lancer is beautiful, interesting, recognizable. And aggressive.

In fact, the Lancer is completely engineered: the main elements are well drawn, and the body does not need interior details to "artificially" raise curiosity about the exterior of this car. However, it has some ingenious designs in both the silhouette and the “current” features. But nevertheless, the man, not noticing this, walks past the front.

The color chart includes quite a few colors, and in fact silver can be pretty too, but this Lancer seems to have been painted with just that color. The combination gives the feeling that it is the only correct one.

And in all this, the Lancer is actually just another one of the mid-range cars that should be an all-rounder for European taste, but it isn't. Times at Mitsubishi have also changed a lot; the Colt and Lancer were once brothers that differed only in the back, but today, when models with that name still exist, the Colt has moved to a class lower. But nothing de; If all goes as it seems, the Lancer will soon be a wagon too.

Until then, however, only the four-door sedan remains. It doesn't really matter, right down to the end of the tailgate, and if you're only looking from the outside, that's fine too. The aforementioned exterior is convincing enough to seduce many limousine aficionados, although when you open the trunk lid, things don't stain the skin of a typical European. The volume of the trunk is not particularly large (the same applies to the opening), so it is not the most useful, although with such a back of the Lancer, the rear bench folds down after a third.

But the facts just stated, in principle, do not significantly affect the overall picture of this car. With four doors on the sides, entry into the cabin is easy and the interior keeps up with the promises made by the exterior. The touches in the cabin are modern, harmonious, neat, the same goes for the details in the main touches, and all together - as in all cars - begins and ends on the dashboard. This one is not even remotely similar to the old Japanese gray (literally and figuratively) products that were not at all beautiful.

This has been taken care of in advance: here are most of what the driver and passenger need, especially in this (most expensive) package of equipment.

What a trifle (depth-adjustable steering wheel, parking assistance, information about the watch that is larger and visible to the driver, a pocket behind the left seat, mirrors on the left visor, illumination of the right mirror in the visor, illumination of switches on the driver's door) for some unknown reason Smart key, automatic movement of all four glasses in both directions, navigation system (which does not work in Slovenia), excellent audio system (Rockford Fosgate), well-placed buttons on the steering wheel, lots of useful storage space, automatic air conditioning (which, with its characteristics, is sometimes really a little capricious ) and leather-covered seats and steering wheel.

Since the mechanics of the power plant in general are very advanced, we may have to gradually get used to the fact that the coolant temperature gauge will no longer exist, but if it does appear, it will be like one of the many data of the on-board computer, as is the case with Lancer.

At the same time, this means that in this car this meter is digital (just like the fuel level gauge), but it appears on the screen between large, beautiful and transparent analog gauges. A badly located (to the left of the gauges) button for switching between information, but it's true that the driver can recall most of this information on the large center screen, where the navigation system, clock and audio system are also “home”. '. The screen is touch sensitive, and the on-board computer with a large amount of data is very easy to use. In fact, this applies to all the functions that can be controlled through this screen, and the more serious disadvantage is that this system has no memory when switching between the main functions.

Like most modern cars, the Lancer can be very annoying with its whistle, as it warns of an unfastened seat belt, as well as low outside temperatures, no key recognition (when the driver comes with the key in his pocket from the car), an open door that is not screwed enough handle to start the engine (when the driver turns off the engine and opens the door) and much more. Warnings are a good thing, but they're also annoying.

Regardless of the depth of the steering wheel, most drivers will find a comfortable driving position for themselves, and the leather seats, which at first seem unprepared due to the leather in the soft corners (due to the beautifully designed lateral support of the seat and backrest), prove it. be good products. In addition, the Lancer inside is more than satisfactory, especially the knee room for the rear passengers. But when it comes to equipment, isn't it easier for the last passengers to be left with nothing (other than the drawers in the door)? The Lancer does not have an outlet (it is closest to the front compartment in the elbow box), no larger drawer, no room for a bottle or can. The back can quickly become boring.

Those who want a turbodiesel will get a Lancer called DI-D, but in reality it is a TDI. We already know that Mitsubishi is borrowing turbo diesels from Wolfsburg, and on Lancer it looks like this engine is written on his skin. The car is no longer perfect: the now abandoned direct injection technique (pump-injector) is clearly found here - there is more noise and vibration (especially in the first two gears when starting and shifting gears) than competitors, but it is true that in practice it's not particularly worrisome. With the possible exception of pedals, which are sometimes very irritating to the feet, wearing shoes with thinner soles.

Due to its performance, the Lancer engine is very dynamic and likes low revs less than its best competitors. He performs his work already at low and medium speeds, where he shows excellent responsiveness to the accelerator pedal and readiness for work. From the user's point of view, there is no “hole” in it: it pulls perfectly from standstill to four thousand rpm and in all gears, even in sixth, where the car starts to accelerate just below this value. speed.

At that time (according to the on-board computer), it consumes 14 liters of fuel per 5 kilometers, and at 100 kilometers per hour (sixth gear, a little less than three thousand rpm), eight liters for the same distance. At the highway speed limit, it will crave just under seven liters, but since it pulls well uphill at higher speeds with high torque, the consumption data (Vrhnika slope) is at 160 kilometers per hour (sixth gear, 180 km / h ). rpm) might be interesting.: 3.300 liters at 13 km. In short, from our experience: the engine can be very economical and is never particularly voracious.

This is partly due to the gearbox, which perfectly matched the gear ratios to the engine's characteristics. So the engine and transmission combination is excellent: in sixth gear for 100 kilometers per hour, it requires (only) 1.900 rpm, and hence, when the gas is running, the engine accelerates smoothly and continuously, enough to overtake.

This way, the driver will never have a problem. The visibility from the car is very good, the feeling of pressing the brake pedal is excellent, the support of the left foot is very good, the car drives easily and beautifully, the movements of the gear lever are excellent (straight strong, but everything is very eloquent) and the chassis is very good: the steering is electro-hydraulic. The booster is a very good example of this technique, the suspension provides a good level of comfort and active safety, and the road position is long neutral with little need to add steering in corners.

The picture changes a little for more demanding drivers who drive the Lancer at the limit of physical abilities: here the steering wheel loses its precision and eloquence (in our case, partly due to winter tires at temperatures close to ten degrees Celsius), and the Lancer is easy to corner. with a touch, it blows its nose into a turn, forcing the steering wheel to “remove” a little. The described phenomenon sounds much scarier than it actually is, but for an experienced driver it can also be useful and - playfully.

And back to the whole picture. With some hard-to-describe little grudges and a less useful classic rear end, it might not feel that way, but the Lancer is actually excellent overall, especially where it matters most: driving, mechanics and handling. If his nose finally decides to buy, there is nothing wrong with that either.

Face to face

Medium Raven: Japanese cars, especially limousines, never relied on emotions and cared about turning their heads. This Lancer, however, is an exception, because you cannot walk past him without staring into his nose, into that angry look. What will be the Sportback, which will have a more popular sedan in our part of Europe! It is a pity that the designers were not guided by this impulse when decorating the interior. The trunk is also not the largest. Turbo diesel Volkswagen 2.0 glows like a tank in the morning, and then quietly works with all its advantages and disadvantages. It sits well, the gear lever knows its purpose, the steering wheel inspires confidence, and the low profile tires (like the test tire) reduce comfort a bit.
