Morgan 3 Wheeler Coming This Year

Morgan will build the first Morgan 3 Wheelers in Australia in the second half of the year.

The Morgan 3 Wheeler is in the final stages of certification and should be ready for shipments before Christmas for under $70,000.

More than 300 people are asking for the car and the number is expected to rise after the car's first official appearance - in classic British racing green - at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.

“The car we brought to AGP is built to Australian Design Rules and we hope everything goes smoothly from there. We hope to complete certification by June,” Morgan Cars Australia CEO Chris van Wyck told Carsguide.

“For the past two years, we have been working on ADR compliance issues and we believe that we have done all the hard work. We had to pass three different crash tests, different steering, higher rollover bars, head restraints and an ADR noise test.

“The machine is at our Compliance Engineer this week and he will test it with the proverbial fine comb. As soon as he is satisfied, we will submit an application for verification to officials from Canberra.

Van Wyck says Morgan will build the first cars in Australia in the second half of the year and he hopes to have the cars available to buyers around September.

“In our experience, the response to 3 Wheeler has been completely unprecedented. We currently have over 300 expressions of interest. I have no idea how many will actually turn into orders as this is new territory for us.”

The 3 Wheeler is a new Morgan invention from the 1920s, powered by a front two-cylinder motorcycle engine driving a single rear wheel, with front wheel steering. It's been heavily sold in Europe since last year, with most owners customizing their cars - some with a livery modeled after World War I fighter jets.
