Motorcycle in chains

It seems that the bike is easier to lose than to buy. Cars usually cost no less than cars that are more likely to be stolen. Hubert Gotowski, Harley-Davidson Mechanic, explains how to secure your motorcycle.

They say that motorcyclists are one big family where things like bike theft are banned, but the reality is different. Motorcycles must be protected in the same way as cars. Immobilizers and electronic alarms are available, as rich and sophisticated as those for cars. There are shock and tilt sensors. For example, they can recall the owner on a pager signal.

In cars, the alarm is hidden under the hood in the engine compartment. Motorcycles usually have open engines. However, the alarm is installed in such a way that free access to it is not possible. You always have to disassemble part of the car to get to them. And self-powered signaling devices also respond to attempts to “defuse” them.

However, in the case of motorcycles, you don't need to start the engine, you can simply pull the motorcycle aside and load it into a van, for example. Therefore, mechanical safety devices that block the wheels are often used. These can be closed U-rods, cables, as well as, for example, special locks for brake discs. When the wheels are not spinning, it is not so easy to take a car weighing several hundred kilograms with you.

Using lines or arches, you can also attach motorcycles to, for example, a lantern or a bench. Often several bicycles are chained together, which also makes theft more difficult. The simplest mechanical safety devices can be purchased from PLN 100. In the case of expensive motorcycles, it is worth investing more and, for example, using an alarm and a mechanical lock.
