Would you prefer the GMSV Chevrolet Tahoe Land Cruiser 300 Series?

The upcoming Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series could face some unexpected competition in Australia as the Chevrolet Tahoe SUV was not selected to overproduce the GMSV for our market.

Although the giant truck has yet to be confirmed for our market, we understand that this is the product that will be of the most interest to GMSV as Australia's passion for powerful SUVs is not about to wane. It's also likely to be the only Chev-branded product on the GMSV radar, and cars like the Suburban are less suited to our market.

And as the Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series intends to ditch the popular LC8 V200 diesel engine and replace it with what is expected to be a 3.3-liter six-cylinder diesel and multiple petrol engines, the Chevrolet Tahoe has one more trick up its sleeve.

That gimmick, of course, is the booming V8 with 5.3-litre (264kW and 519Nm) and 6.2-litre (313kW and 623Nm) petrol eight-cylinder engines. A 300-liter inline-six diesel with 3.3 kW and 206 Nm is also offered, competing with the LC623.

This diesel engine will be of particular interest to LC300 fans, as Toyota's new diesel engine is expected to produce around 200kW and 650Nm, which puts it on par (or close enough) to Chevrolet.

With all that said, if the Chevrolet Tahoe makes it to Australia, there's a real chance the GMSV will stick with gas-powered options, given that it will be one of the country's few remaining eight-cylinder SUVs.

The Tahoe's towing capabilities are also impressive, with the big Chev capable of towing up to 3.6 tons, depending on engine configuration. Throw in three rows of seats, all-wheel drive and a rugged reputation, and you've got a solid contender for the LandCruiser's dominance in Australia.

Will they or won't they? Watch this space.
