We drove: Husqvarna enduro FE / TE 2017 with traction control

This is enough to say that we are witnessing a generational change of enduro bikes that open up new dimensions of riding for enduro riders. When I was testing the new models in Slovakia, it became clear to me that the 2017 Husqvarna bikes allowed me to be faster and more reliable in everything I did on the training ground, including elements of motocross, endurocross and classic enduro. Turns with canals and jumps, tables, then logs, tractor tires, and last but not least, a creek with sliding rocks, mud, ups and downs and slipping roots in the thicket - a strawberry set of obstacles that every driver faces sooner or later enduro. If you sit on a good motorcycle, driving on such impassability is a pleasure, or even torment and a nightmare. On various models of Husqvarn enduros, I got quite a few blisters on my palms during the day, but I got the most out of it. And that's what really matters in the end. Relaxation, activity, adrenaline and the feeling of wanting to get back on the bike as soon as possible and hit the right terrain for enduro.

125 TX max with road type approval

Husqvarna has developed seven completely new models with new engines for its sports enduro program. Of these, three are two-stroke. The first 125 TX, which is only not allowed to drive in traffic, then 250 TE and 300 TE. For anyone with a passion for valves in the cylinder head, there are four four-stroke engines that power the 250 FE, 350 FE, 450 FE and 501 FE models. The new frame in which the engines were installed is smaller and lighter. However, as it evolves, all Husqvarnas are now equipped with rear wheel slip control and launch control to ensure optimal traction at launch. WP Xplor 48 oil forks and WP DCC damper in the crankshaft provide good ground contact.

Also completely new is the plastic upgrade, which has an interesting, modern and cute design that stands out from the competition. New are the engine guard and subframe, which is made of a carbon fiber composite mass, new is the fork clamp that is not molded, but CNC-milled for greater strength, new pedals that self-clean from dirt, the new seat design is covered non-slip cover, rear brake lever and Magura clutch hydraulic system are new. All enduro models are equipped with premium racing tires. Metzeler 6 Day Extremewhich provide incredibly good traction in all conditions, even in enduro competition.

All models are more compact, lighter and extremely easy to handle. The fully adjustable suspension gave me good traction, but it's also helped by the new rear-wheel anti-skid system, where it cuts off some of the excess power through the ignition system on four-stroke models and makes sure the steering doesn't shift into neutral as much. This is a long-awaited novelty that will come in handy when climbing slippery rocks and roots, that is, anywhere where there is poor grip.

250, 350, 450 or 501? Depending on the person.

The new frame and suspension work great together, so channeling and flipping technical and closed terrain can be a real pleasure. The motorcycles are very light in the hand and follow the driver's commands precisely. Interestingly, while many of the components are shared with the parent factory KTM enduro models, they are easier to handle. The nature of the engines has also been slightly changed, they have become more aggressive. If I had to pick one model, I would go for the FE 450, which is fantastic handling and with smooth power and torque to move smoothly without being too strong or too heavy. I didn't get along very well with the FE 350, although it is a little easier to handle, but the engine, which should run much faster, required more concentration and knowledge from me to overcome obstacles.

A very interesting engine is the FE 250 which is the lightest of the four stroke engines that does not require driving and therefore very good for beginners and for very twisty and technical terrain. However, with a good driver who knows how to manage the engine in the upper rev range, he can be very, very fast. The most powerful FE 501 is a machine that excels on straights and between steep and long climbs. It was too technical and slippery off-road. Both power and torque in the motor that used the most power to guide me through the tricky parts. Among the two-stroke models, I have to highlight the TE 250. It struck me with its liveliness and lightness as a feather, which easily overcame all obstacles, which this polygon really lacked. First of all, I was convinced by the sufficiently powerful and responsive engine, as well as a slightly lighter and more playful character than the TE 300, which excels in climbing the steepest slopes.

If I sum it all up in one sentence, I can say that the new Husqvarna enduro makes changes in the right direction, allows the driver to be more independent in more difficult terrain and helps him overcome all obstacles more safely and efficiently. And that means more satisfaction from every trip, what's the point, right?
