Skiing by car
Skiing - at least in Polish reality - is a rather expensive hobby. Especially in the beginning, you need to be prepared for considerable expenses. In addition to the cost of ski equipment, we are waiting for the cost of the appropriate modification of the car (even with a boot and chains), as well as winter tires, which are mandatory in many countries.

Owners of larger vehicles, such as minivans, can save on buying a trunk. In most of these models, skis can be safely carried inside, for example on the floor. Contrary to popular belief, such transport, even to countries where there is a restrictive approach 
security item (Switzerland, Austria) is legal if the skis are securely fastened.
Holder or box? is the beginner's dilemma. Each solution has its own advantages and disadvantages. One thing is certain, the boxes sell much better despite the much higher price. Handles are a good solution for owners of vehicles with large trunks, such as station wagons, who do not need additional loading space. Prices for holders for 3-4 pairs of skis start from PLN 70. A good one - branded, with soft rubber resistant to low temperatures - can be bought for about 200 zł. For less than PLN 600 we will get a first-class holder for 6 pairs of skis.
Apart from the lower price, the handles also have the advantage that they do not require a speed limit when driving on German motorways. However, in bad weather and road conditions (snowfall, salty roads) one of the biggest disadvantages of handles becomes a problem, i.e. lack of ski protection. After a few hundred kilometers, the skis are ready for cleaning and care.
Drawers, which are significantly more expensive than pens, have more advantages. They can be used both during a ski trip and in the summer, during a vacation. If our car does not have a large trunk, there is actually no dilemma, because we will pack not only skis or a snowboard in a box, but also other ski equipment (boots, overalls, etc.).
Cheap and relatively reliable boxes 180 cm long cost about PLN 600. The most popular are "coffins" with a length of 190 to 200 cm. This category also includes the largest selection: from straight lines (from 630 PLN), to Thule Odyssey (about 800 PLN) to the Mont Blanc Triton model (from 1150 to 1400 PLN) . Drivers who also care about the appearance of the box should be interested in the Thule Spirit line (prices up to PLN 2500).
Which chains to choose?
In the case of chains, the most important rule is to avoid "made in" market junk. 
China." We can buy such chains for about PLN 50, but their advantages end in low cost. Prices for branded chains start from PLN 140 (plain, without self-tensioner). For PLN 300-350 we will buy branded chains (Koniq, Pewag, Simaka) with a self-tensioning device, automatic disassembly and lowered links. Good chains are made of nickel-manganese steel, protect aluminum rims, have lowered links, which is useful in cars with ABS and lowered suspension.
Before you go on a ski trip, especially a longer one (to Italy, Switzerland, Austria), you also need to carefully check the car and prepare it for a harsh winter, that is, do everything that you don’t want to do in the lowlands. It is necessary to check the condition of the battery, brake and coolant fluids. It is worth remembering to lubricate the seals with silicone. You should also take a shovel, waterproof gloves and a jacket with the machine.
