Heated seat cover

As you know, sitting in the cold is not very good for health, especially for women. Drivers have a number of occupational diseases that arise due to non-compliance with elementary rules of caring for their health.

In winter, colds and flu are not the worst diseases that can put the driver to bed for several days. You can earn pneumonia and a whole bunch of other diseases if the seat of your car is not heated, and you sit on it after leaving a warm office or apartment.

What to do if you do not have heating?

The first option that comes to mind is to “turn on” the stove to full and wait until the interior warms up. However, the stove constantly running at maximum consumes a lot of energy and you will have to increase your gas costs.

A much more economical and reasonable option is to purchase a heated seat cover. Now such capes are offered in almost any automotive goods store. The excitement increases with the onset of autumn.

What is a heated cape?

In principle, there is nothing complicated here. An ordinary cape, which is worn on a chair, is fixed with rubber bands, and is connected to the cigarette lighter. There are options for both cars and trucks and special equipment, designed for 12 or 24 volts.

Such heating can be of any type and size: there are capes that completely cover the seat, there are also small compact options, about 40x80 cm in size, which heat the places where the driver’s body comes into direct contact with the seat.

The cape can have several operating modes, for this there is a voltage regulator. By turning on the heating device in the network, in just a few seconds you will feel how heat spreads along the internal circuit. You don't need the cover to run all day long, just turn it on for a while until the seat warms up to a comfortable temperature. Long sitting on a hot place is also not very good for the body.

It is necessary to maintain a normal comfortable temperature - from 15 to 18 degrees Celsius, it is at this temperature that the brain remains vigilant for a long time.

In stores, you can find expensive options that fit the specific parameters of a particular model, as well as not very expensive products from China, but they are all arranged on the same principle as ordinary heating pads.

The top layer is usually polyester, this material does not get dirty, and any stains can be easily removed from it. Under it is a thin layer of foam rubber, in which the wires of the heating elements are located in an insulating winding. You can set the operating mode using the regulator, which has type designations: ON, OFF, High, LOW. There are also control LEDs that glow green if everything is normal, or red when the device is overheated.

To avoid short circuits or ignition in case of overheating, a thermal fuse is connected, which can be hidden inside the cape itself. The thermostat automatically turns off the cape if it has heated up to a certain limit, or has worked for more than 15 minutes.

There are also more advanced options, such as heated massage capes. It is clear that there is already a more complex design and higher prices. But for a trucker, this is a very necessary thing when you have to overcome huge distances and sit behind the wheel for a whole day.

By the way, such capes can be used not only in the car, but also at home or in the office. True, you need to buy an adapter adapter from 220 Volts to 24/12 Volts.

What to choose a heated cape or built-in heating?

The cape is worn over the seat and has all the disadvantages of chair covers. Not all drivers behave in the same way behind the wheel: someone is focused on driving and sits in his place with little or no movement, and someone can make so many body movements in one minute that over time, any capes can not stand it. In addition, they quickly become unusable when in contact with moisture.

Built-in heating is sewn under the seat lining, a switch is displayed on the instrument panel. It is very difficult to damage such heating, and it will not spoil the interior of your car. True, such a service will cost more. As always, the main decision is up to the owner of the car.
