Drive a car from Lithuania to Russia

Lithuania is a kind of outpost between Russia and the European Union. Back in the distant dashing 90s, a large percentage of used cars from Europe went through Lithuania. And now this business is flourishing in full, although innovations with increased duties, recycling fees and Euro-4 and Euro-5 standards did not affect it in the best way.

The largest car markets in Lithuania are located in Vilnius and Kaunas. Lithuanian resellers buy used cars from Europeans and immediately send them for sale. Although often you have to work a little on the car, and sometimes Lithuanian craftsmen completely digest the body to hide the traces of an accident. In a word, if you are in the Lithuanian car market, then you need to believe only your eyes, and not the stories of the seller.

But there is one big plus - the prices here are really low, and that is why the trade is very brisk, many cars are sold out even before they have had time to take their place on the market. Among the buyers there are a lot of residents of Kaliningrad, people come here from neighboring Estonia, Latvia, Belarus, and of course Russia. Also, a lot of cars are bought for parts.

You can find out the price level on any site of free auto ads. As a rule, sellers immediately indicate all the shortcomings and post high-quality photos. However, prices can be confusing, we see two prices - the price in Lithuania and the price for export. In some cases, these values may differ by several times - in Lithuania a car costs 1,5 thousand euros, and for export - 5 thousand euros.

You should not pay attention to the price in Lithuania - in this way, sellers want to trick the site's search engine so that their ad appears as high as possible in the list.

The export price must be lower than the price in Lithuania, because when you cross the border, you must return 18 percent of VAT - this condition works in all EU countries.

How to import a car from Lithuania?

First of all, it must be said that there are several schemes for delivering cars from Lithuania:

  • traditional with the opening of a visa and the payment of all customs duties;
  • register as a legal entity in Lithuania and save on customs fees;
  • double citizenship.

On the Internet, you can find many companies that provide car delivery services from Lithuania. Such companies provide a full range of services: from choosing a car to its delivery to your city, customs clearance, assistance with registration with the traffic police.

For example, delivery of a car on its own to Moscow will cost approximately 800-900 Euros.

If you want to go to Vilnius on your own, then you will need to apply for a visa first. It is better to come for a few days, so you will have to take care of an overnight stay. Do not forget about the customs deposit, that is, you will need to calculate the amount of customs payments in advance and deposit it into the customs account. A customs deposit is charged in order to avoid frequent cases when cars are driven from abroad, and then registered in Russia under false documents, or simply dismantled for spare parts in some garage.

Usually, the customs deposit is equal to the amount of customs duties for the car you brought, but if you have not decided on the model yet, then you can at least approximately calculate it using the customs calculator.

We only recall that it is most profitable to import cars manufactured 3-5 years ago.

When you arrive in Vilnius or Kaunas and decide on a car, the sequence of actions will be as follows:

  • make sure that the car complies with Euro-4 or Euro-5 environmental standards;
  • leave the seller a deposit in the amount of 100-200 euros, he goes to deregister the car;
  • submit documents to a notary to draw up a customs declaration, where you can also get forms for drawing up a contract of sale;
  • you go with the seller to the local traffic police - Regitra, where the TCP, STS, transit numbers are issued, the contract is signed (you can also issue an invoice), transfer of money and keys.

Now it is already possible to get on your own to the customs, and it is precisely to that customs crossing, which is indicated in the declaration. At the customs, they will check everything, see if a customs deposit has been made, put stamps and that's it - you can go home, you have 10 days for this.

Upon arrival at the customs office of your city, you draw up all the documents - the amount of customs duties is deducted from the deposit made, the difference, if any, is returned. You pay a recycling fee and go to the traffic police to register your car.

If you want to save on customs fees, then you can use other methods. For example, to open a company in Lithuania, it will cost 1000 euros. The purchased car is put on the balance of your company, and then you simply cross the border on this car and can use your car for 6 months. Then again you will need to return to Lithuania and again issue a temporary entry into Russia. And so every 6 months.

It would seem that the method is not very interesting, but many residents of the border regions and Kaliningrad do this. In approximately the same way, people who have dual citizenship bring cars from Lithuania, they also have to register at customs every six months.
