Defective thermostat

Defective thermostat When the engine takes too long to warm up, it consumes more fuel. Too long heating may be due to a faulty thermostat.

In terms of proper operation, the engine must reach the correct temperature as quickly as possible. Modern engines achieve this by driving 1-3 km.

 Defective thermostat

When the power unit warms up for too long, it consumes more fuel. If the engine takes too long to warm up, the thermostat may be damaged.

In the cooling system of the drive unit, two cycles of fluid flow can be distinguished. When the engine is cold, the coolant circulates in a so-called small circuit, consisting of the engine block and the heater. Having reached the desired temperature, the liquid circulates in the so-called large circuit, which is a small circuit enriched with a cooler, a pump, an expansion tank, a thermostat and connecting pipes. A thermostat is a type of valve that regulates the engine's operating temperature. Its task is to switch the coolant flow from low to high circulation when its temperature exceeds a certain value. The thermostat is a non-repairable part, if it is damaged, it must be replaced with a new one. Checking that the thermostat is working properly is relatively simple, but requires removing it from the system.
