The assembly procedure consists of the following steps:

1. We wipe the cylinders with a rag in the place of contact with the pads.

3. We measure the thickness of the brake disc with a caliper. To do this, we grind the shoulder with a file on both sides of the disk in several places. The value must be at least 9 mm. Otherwise, the disk must be replaced.

4. Through the spacer with a mounting blade, we press the pistons one by one into the cylinders. This will allow you to easily install new pads.

Replacing the rear pads

Brake elements front and rear wear unevenly. Therefore, the rear pads are changed much less frequently. However, it is not worth delaying the repair, since both the braking efficiency and the holding of the car when put on the handbrake directly depend on the state of the pads.

To carry out the procedure, you need to prepare the following tools:

• screwdriver with a flat and cross blade;
• pliers;
• long nose pliers;

How to remove the brake drum

We dismantle the part in the following sequence:

1. Hang the back of the car and remove the wheel.
2. We turn off the guide pins.
   

   The drum on the axle shaft is held by two studs, unscrew them
3. Lightly tap on the edge of the drum from the back using a wooden block. It is not necessary to knock with a hammer without a guide, as the edge of the product may break off.

4. Often the brake drum cannot be removed, so we twist the studs into the technical holes.
   

   Sometimes, to remove the brake drum, you need to screw the studs into special holes and wring it out of the shield

The dismantling of drums on the "classic" is the "disease" of these cars. Pulling the part is very problematic, especially if this is rarely done. However, there is an old-fashioned way, which is used not only by me, but also by other motorists. To dismantle, we twist the studs into the drum, then start the engine and turn on the fourth gear, causing the drum to rotate. Then we apply the brakes sharply. You may need to repeat the procedure several times. After that, we try to knock the drum down again with a hammer, usually it works.

Removing the pads

We dismantle the pads in this order:

1. Remove the spring-loaded bolts holding the brake elements.
   

   The pads are pressed against the brake shield with spring bolts, remove them
2. Use a screwdriver to tighten the lower spring.
   

   We tighten the spring from below, with which the pads are pressed against each other
3. We move the block and dismantle the spacer bar.
   

   Pushing the block aside, remove the spacer bar
4. We tighten the spring that holds the pads in the upper part of the mechanism.
   

   The pads are pressed against the pistons of the cylinders by a spring, which also needs to be removed.
5. Disconnect the lever from the tip of the handbrake cable.

Installation of pads and drum

The brake elements are installed in place in reverse order. Before putting the drum on the axle shaft, you need to clean it from the inside from corrosion and dirt, for example, with a metal brush. It should also be noted that with new pads, the drum may not sit in its place. Therefore, you will have to slightly release the tension of the handbrake cable. When the drums are installed on both sides, you need to adjust the handbrake.

For some time after replacing the pads, it is not recommended to brake sharply, as they must get used to the drums.

When replacing pads, it is also recommended to check other elements of the brake system and suspension. Brake hoses must not show any visible damage or leaks. Pads are only changed as a set. Otherwise, the car will be pulled to the side after repair.
