Axle bearing replacement

The half shaft itself practically does not break, but sometimes the bearing through which it is attached to the middle of the bridge fails. Its purpose is to smoothly and evenly rotate the axle shaft while the car is moving. Bearing failure symptoms are the same as for hub elements. Bearing removal

Before starting work, you need to prepare the following list of tools:

• a set of socket wrenches with a clamp;
• a hammer;
• screwdriver;
• bit;
• meat grinder;
• new axle bearing with circlip.

To replace, follow these steps:

1. Suspend the rear wheel with a jack, and then remove it, remembering to place stops under the front wheels.
2. Remove the brake drum.

3. Using pliers and a screwdriver, remove the brake pads.
4. Using a 17mm socket wrench, remove the axle shaft bracket bolts.

In order to disassemble the drum, you must carefully knock out the inside of the drum through a block of wood.

Installing a new part

After removing the bearing, you can immediately proceed to reassembly:

1. Clean the semi-axle of dirt and wipe with a rag.
2. A new bearing is pressed onto the axle shaft, after which the retaining ring is mounted. To mount the latter, it is desirable to heat it with a blowtorch, which will facilitate adjustment and fastening after cooling.

3. Remove the old half shaft oil seal from the rear half shaft with a screwdriver or pliers.
