The Nio ES8 is a Chinese electric crossover that should go on sale in Europe in 2020. The manufacturer is clearly focused on competing with Audi, BMW and Mercedes, a little less with Tesla, so it offers solutions from the premium segment at a very reasonable price.

The maximum power of the car in the four-wheel drive version is 480 kW (~ 650 hp), which allows it to work. acceleration to 100 km / h in 4,4 seconds. The speed was limited to 200 km / h.

Big but alive

The car is gigantic, considering European preferences: it weighs 2,5 tons, has a length of 5,2 meters, a wheelbase of more than 3 meters, a width of 2,3 meters - that is, it is even larger than the Tesla Model X, so we can easily transport it 5-6-7 people. While driving, the car should feel much more dynamic than a Tesla or Audi e-tron, although the reviewer did not explain why this opinion came from (source).

It was emphasized that the high coefficient of drag (Cx = 0,29) means that the Nio ES8 uses a lot of energy: 27 kWh / 100 km (270 Wh / km), which reduces the car's real range to about 220-250 km for the version with a 67 kWh battery. While driving, the air makes a little more noise than in the Audi e-tron, but that should be the only difference from the German competitor. Because the interior is standard premium with cream leather and seats that recline to a horizontal position.

An interesting feature of the car is Nomi, that is, the ability to control the functions of the car with your voice. Unfortunately, in the tested Nio ES8, the assistant only used Chinese, so we were unable to test it. It should be added that a similar mechanism will be equipped with the Volkswagen ID.3, the option is likely to appear in other models based on the MEB platform: Audi Q4 e-tron, VW ID. Crozz or Seat el Borni.

Overall impression? Solid premium SUV, but "unfortunately not available" yet.
