Nissan Primera Universal 2.2 dCi Accenta

In fact, they had only one problem with Nissan for a long time: they lacked good, modern diesel engines. But working with Renault also solved that. Thus, the Primera got as many as two diesels, 1, 9- and 2, 2-liter.

The latter was also under the bonnet of the test Primera, and it must be admitted that such an engine, which would suit the car better, would be difficult to find. At first glance, 138 'horsepower' is not a shocking number (although it is almost as much as the most powerful petrol engine in the Primera can do), but the comparison of torques speaks for itself.

The 2.0 16V is capable of 192 newton meters, while for diesel this number is much higher - as much as 314 Nm. It is therefore not surprising that with this engine the Primera accelerates sovereignly even when lazing around with an otherwise well-calculated and easily 'fluid' six-speed transmission and that, according to the factory data, it easily earns the title of the fastest Primera.

And at the same time, the engine is well soundproofed, smoothly fluid and, above all, economical. Less than eight liters per hundred kilometers of test average for a ton and a half heavy car is not an excessive number, and with a light foot on the accelerator pedal, this number can be even two liters lower.

The rest of the mechanics are also at a high enough level if you don’t demand sportiness from the car. In the latter case, the chassis is just too soft and allows too much tilting in corners. Otherwise, the car is not even intended for this kind of work, so it is not surprising that the seats are more comfortable than sports sitting, the steering wheel is not the most precise, and the position behind the wheel will be more suitable for those who like to rest there than for those to racing proper seating.

If we add to this the volume-friendly dimensions of the trunk, the rich equipment (Accenta), the interestingly designed dashboard, it is clear: The Primera is intended for those who would like a correct car, but at the same time something special. With a 2-liter diesel in the nose, it’s all the more useful.
